I was wondering do i need a special type of hub for the back tires???

It depends what your tires are. If you're using racing slicks typically it's american bolt pattern 3 bolt.

im not making a racing cart
im using some tires like this

those wont work because there are bearings in them
but the easyer/ cheaper way is to make it a 1 wheel drive kart
go look at northerntool.com
thats were i got alot of my stuff
including my pipe bender, tires sprokets and hubs, throttle grips and alot of other stuff
its a nice place

yeah i know im planing on changing the hubs

how am i suppose to put the wheel on the other side if i get an axle with it keyed only half way

and what are the advantages and disadavantages of having a step down on a axle help me out

my go kart frame is 27" wide is it a good idea to get a 40" or could i go smaller
