Axle spacer dilemma

Hey guys, I'm almost at the end of a 3 month restoration of my Manco Rattler LXT. However, the old brake pads were so worn down (new brake pads moved the break rotor about 3/8in to the Left), and two new rear axle bearings (flanges extend 1/4in longer) have shifted the axle.

Now, with the two stock axle spacers, which fall in between the Left axle bearing and the brake rotor, my brake rod does not align properly and rubs into the rotor. My question is, do I even need these two spacers on the axle. If I have spacers in between the rear wheels and the axle bearings (outer axle) wouldn't that alone prevent axle movement?

Thanks!

Alright guys, just a quick update. I couldn't manage to align the brake rod without it rubbing up against the seat frame (which I restored and painted), so I went out and bought a propane torch (I love new toys :drool5:). After a little trial and error, I bent the brake rod into position and it now fits without issue. I plan to finish up the restoration this Monday. Can't wait!

you do realize that the brake caliper floats on the mounting bracket and will sit wherever your brake disc is?

Yes, however even with the brake caliper as far into the mounting bracket as possible (the direction needed to align), the brake rod was still rubbing against the rotor. The brake rotor and sprocket hub are also "frozen" onto the axle so I couldn't move those around to get a better line.
