Hi all, i am new to karting and just recently acquired an american cruiser kart from a fellow employee. Im trying to fix this thing up for daughter who is 10. It looks like the guy had takin the original jackshaft off and ran it strait from clutch to axle which was like a 3:1 ratio! Wonder why it was breaking chains. Any way i am going to install a live axle since it will be mostly driven on a dirt trail and had a question the axle setup. I plan to use a jackshaft so i can use the 13” tires that are on it as they are in good shape. I know i will have to find some 1” bore rims but that will come later. I am thinking about running 12t clutch to 26t js/in 12t js/out to 36t axle. Does this configuration seem logical and if so where might I find a #35 36t sprocket for a 1” live axle? Thanks guys and any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

With the sprockets you mentioned, you will have a 6.5:1 ratio. That isn't bad, but sometimes offroad you would like more torque.

I would say go for it and see how it handles

Those tires look pretty small... I think it would be just fine. Especially if you put a torque converter on it. Only $60 for a Chinese clone TAV2 on eBay.

Torque converter prices have skyrocketed as of late. I am guessing if you asked the manufacturer would site covid-19. But unfortunately this is the case.
