Axle rust prevention

I had to cut the axle in half to get it out because the wheels were rusted on to the axle. I tried just about everything including a press.
Anyway, what's the best way to prevent this from happening on my new axle? Especially where the wheels are? Anti-seize slathered all over where the wheels go? Seems like the lug nuts will come loose.

It's a 1 in axle with just the one nut, not a hub.

No need to slather, just a light amount of grease or antiseize where the wheel contacts the axle.

If your concerned about the nut backing off , simply don't put the lube on the threads, easy enough.

This might trigger some folk, but I lightly lube the lug nuts on my car, ect. Then use a torque wrench
to tighten to spec. I swap out summer/ winter wheels every year, and just did a 600 mile road trip this week.
Nothing ever falls apart, nor am I concerned about it.

Anti seize is good in an application like this. Probably dissimilar metals? Steel axle and aluminum wheel?
Add a little water and you have a self welding combination. Anti sieze is about the best solution.
you could also look into a sacrificial magnesium anode, or one of the anti electrolsis devices.

You can buy the nylock type nuts to put on the end of the axles. Rub a ight coat of grease on the axle before putting the wheels on and they will slip right off when and if you need to pull them. Do the same to the crankshaft on your engine prior to installing the driver. They will get stuck even without rust, in a matter of a month or two. Lots of heat in that area.

Pull them apart every few months also to keep it all moving.

I greased the axle all up when I was installing it. Will have to remember to grease up the engine shaft when I install the pulley for the final assembly.
