Conventional wisdom generaly says that live axle is typically subpar for tarmac use in regards to steering relative to a one wheel drive setup. So in light of that It seems a no brainer that for a trike setup,a one wheel is the way to go.but upon further reflection I am not so certain.without going through all the pros and cons of the two,I would like to hear any feedback from any one in regards to 3 wheeler application.Im open to any info, from speculation to scientificly proven certaintys or any thing between.thanks to all

yes using a diff is a good point.I forgot to add some pertinent info,im a bit frugal(ok ok im cheap like the baby bird says)if I go with one wheel drive will a jackshaft be a cheaper alternative?I definitely want to go for the cleaner look and better weight distribution of the centered motor.and does a jackshaft make a bandbrake feasible?or could a discbrake be used with a jackshaft?oh the endless possibilitys!

You could possibly put the bandbrake on the other non drive wheel to even things out a bit. Might have some fun with burnouts that way :lolgoku:

Yeah.....maybe....the thing is. ...a set-up like that requires a lot of driver control....think about it....you're flying along and panic stop...now your drive wheel is still under near full power.....while you lock up the other. ....handy feature if you forgot your cellphone and need to turn around. .....

See what I mean? ????

:iagree: A live axle in this scenario is in no way benificial, in fact, it would be downright dangerous; however, there are still a number of options:

-Diff axle: With a sprocket & brake disc mounted to the centre casing, you're good to go...

-Live axle with single drive wheel: This setup has been used very sucessfully in many applications...

-Transaxle: Find yourself a small, cheap riding mower & simplify the drive system; this would also be benificial to achieving the low speed aspect of your build...
