Axel brackets

I'm thinking of a way to mount my new live axel without buying some pillow blockes and just getting some steel tubbing and a peice of flat stock with holes to hold the baring and the mounts. Does this idea sound like it would work?. In the pictures I have 2x4s to represent some tubing and I would cut out a new bracket like what's on the other go kart to mount the bearing inside

Idk if it would work, but why not just get hanger bearings instead of pillow blocks?

I spent like $30 on my set with shipping. Weld up the plate straight and you're good to go.

i think i cold even be a cheapo and make a slightly modified version of those bearing hangers then i could get the whole set up for free with supplies i have laying around the shop
