Hello, I am new to the forum and have read through numerous posts and have a question about what electric motor and sprocket would be appropriate for my project.

My son and I are building a reproduction 1928 auto Red-Bug "car" I put car in quotes because it was really just a go kart with big wheels. It was powered by a 12 volt motor made by North East which is the same as starter-generator on the old Dodge Brothers cars. It drives the right rear wheel and the foot brake is on the left rear wheel. The tires are 20" x 2" vehicle weight is approximately 200lbs. My son wants to drive it in a parade he weighs approx. 100lbs. My question is this;

I was considering a 24v 750w 28amp motor link here:http://www.partsforscooters.com/120-58_motor_Currie long with a 72 tooth 25h chain/spocket.

Will this be enough power to run this at 5 to 10MPH?

If not what size motor would I need and where could I get it?

I don't really have the technical expertise to modify a golf cart motor.

BTW-if you look at the picture you will see what appears to be a toolbox on the back, that is actually the battery compartment.

I have most everything completed but just need the motor.

I also could pick up on a Scwinn S500 Electric scooter that I could "harvest" a working motor, spocket, etc. along with a charger, it just needs batteries. BUT, would it be powerful enough?

Many thanks for your help.
