I've always wondered what christmas is like in upside-down land. I'm assuming there are barbeques and stuff that kind of resemble our 4th of July. (albeit in California it can be 75 degrees on christmas).
What are the TV ads like? Ours are all snow and cold and Mercedes Benz...Lots of Benz commercials.

The accent is a little thick (that and I can't really adjust the audio quality on my little net book so I can actually hear and understand all that they are singing) but it seems to hew to the time honored tradition of the "filk song", I.E. a song that takes the music of an old standby and rewrites the words (usually, as in this case) for humorous effect.
I can just imagine what the racier stuff must sound like......

TV commercials are pretty much the same but the "christmas greeting" ads (you know the ones where the TV personalities wish you a merry christmas blah blah blah) always depict a "northern" christmas for some strange reason

Actually it is European. It was Pagan holiday that the christians adopted.
Some theories say that Jesus was actually born in the spring or summer. I have no idea if anyone has actually proved that though.

Well, the holiday was Yule and was more or less adjusted to be slightly more Christian. People used to party in the streets around Christmas. Church officials actually tried to ban Christmas in the 1600's because of the partying.

Christmas here is a huge family get together on Christmas Day
Then everyone to the beach on Boxing Day
Something strange I've observed us that over the last 15yrs (as long as I can remember)
It's a nice 27*c on Christmas then cranks it up to 38+ on Boxing Day
Regardless of how the rest of the season has gone
Dear god I can't count how many times we had to sing that in primary school
I probs couldn't sing the whole real jingle bells but that one is frozen in my memory

Haha I love the way you Aussies speak. Could totally live there. Every once in a while buggy Baz calls me from West Perth at 6am(here). I never mind getting that call. The voice just makes me smile. Also I heard thongs in the song. Reminds me of a funny talk we had. We call those sandals here. First time Baz said something about his broken thong I was like wow! didn't need to know that. I found out later he was talking about his sandal. Hahahaha Thongs are very skimpy underwear over here. Trust me. Nothing you want to think of a man wearing.

They were both, at one time, (along with many other places) colonies of the British Empire. Canada taken from the French and Australia used as a penal colony.

Baz lives in the southeastern suburbs of perth which is in the west of the country

Wow! Small world here in internet land. Nope, the guy in Alaska is AKPilot. That guy is a mad genius. Builds some incredible machines. I'm learning and hoping to have his skills one day. What do you think of the AK pilot? That's his newest buggy I believe. That thing is impressive. Been a while since we talked. Surprised you havnt joined that racing series. Wish we had stuff like that here. I'm Dave from Illinois. Baz has lots of friends over here. He's a great guy. If I ever make the big time I'll be flying me and a buggy over to ride with you guys.

I think it had more to do with the meshing of multiple nationalities, cultures, and languages.
