ATV Torque Converter

Is it possible to convert an ATV torque converter for use on a go kart. Machining it would not be a problem if needed.

But would the springs need to be changed if its from a 2 stoke as it engage at a higher RPM.

It would be going on a 21HP vanguard Briggs.

I feel it would be difficult to use a torque converter from a 2 stroke on a 4 stroke. Not only would you need to switch out the spring but also the weights, and figure out which combination of spring/weights goes best with the power band of the 4 stroke. HOWEVER: 4 strokes have much wider power bands . going from a 4 to a 2 stroke would be much harder. Hope this helps!

Is it a comet torque converter? If so most of the comet torque converters work with 2 or 4 stroke engines

Because comet has spec charts that can often tell you what weights and spring you need

It would be off a Polaris 2x4 250. would it be better to get one out of a four stroke. as it would work in the range needed. the springs would just need to be changed on the engine side of the torque converter right?

The reason I am asking this is there a large ATV and motorcycle salvage yard by me with good prices. That is why i thought about it, plus finding a torque converter to handle 21 hp is not easy for a descent cost.

I'd think many ATVs would be at least 20hp. You shouldn't have a problem finding one off a 4stroke at a salvage yard.

Mainly because the majority of ATVs are 4 stroke; I'm not saying they don't exist but, I don't recall ever seeing a 2 stroke ATV over 50cc...

Huh? There are tons of 2 strokes over 50 cc, in atv's, at least there are here....

I believe many of the utility ATVs are 4 stroke. The faster racing style ones are mainly 2. (At least ones that would be in the salvage yard)

most of the atvs in the salvage yard are rear wheel drive. they look as engine problems sent them there. The four stroke atvs are 4 wheel drive with the torque converter going to the transfer case. some have cvt which is not the same as a torque converter?

the two storke atv we have is oil injected.
