ATV for Project Mini Bike?

My first forum thread and hopefully its in the right place.

I have been looking for a mini bike to get my wife started on and hopefully move to a dirt bike before I buy her a zx6 ninja, I drive a zx14 but I would also like a mini bike to tear up when not teaching the wife to ride 2 wheels. I found a guy on Craigslist who has a mini bike frame to trade for a project atv which I have. The guy tells me that his mini bike is a hawg ty and has a 1969 Briggs & Stratton 7hp engine that's worth $13K (YES) and when his mini bike is fixed its worth $17.5K I had to ask twice on the price but I think its a bit to excessive on the pricing. I know the engine alone is not worth $13k but what is the worth on the frame? rare? It looks like china frame to me or the bikes checkers auto used to sell long time ago but I don't know much about mini bikes but I have seen some crazy prices on ebay for mini bikes. Longer story made shorter, Craigslist guy wants me to give him my running trx200 (w/title) for his broken mini bike that needs a coil, pull starter, spark plug and probably a carb rebuild.

I should add I already have 2 Briggs 7hp engines I traded for welding work, but I would figure updraft carb engine's are best used on generators or machinery instead on mini bikes or go karts?

Good deal ? Run away? Ask for more on his part?

an old worn out briggs is worth its weight in scrap, unless you can part it out and sell the carb. crank, and air filter assemblies maybe get $50 out of it. I personally like the old briggs engines, but they were mass produced.The guy is obviously delusional and or blowing smoke up your butt.

If it is really worth that much (which i would say it is not) then have him show you the expert appraisal document (which he wont have) detailing its fair market value. Maybe offer him $40 or something and see what he says

Is your TRX200 worth $40? because thats about how much you could sell the mini bike for.

trx200 is worth more like $600-$800 since it needs some fender cracks addressed.
I thought maybe the frame could of been rare or something and if it were worth that much I don't understand why he wouldn't fix it up. I will probably walk away from it, I could always sell the atv and pick up one of those new fancy mini bikes from tractor supply but wanted something to build together with the wife so she could learn how to repair and maintain. Everything else on craigslist is going for the same price or more of a new bike.

You could always get the Azusa minibike kit which you can build (put together) with the wife.

Thats a baja heat or warrior, i bought mine with a blown motor and in the same condition that looks to be in for FIFTEEN bucks. He is trying to rip you off.
Btw that particular mini bike has a little bit of a rough ride with the rigid rear end, your wife may not like that.

Thanks guys for the posts I will pass on the deal and maybe pick up the Azusa kit or build my own frame and use large fat tires. Do you guys know where I can get a fat tire mini bike frame plan? I was thinking of using 18 or 19"x8-8 tires and a harbor freight 11-13 hp engine.
