The engine in fowlers link is a Cat 3516, Rated rpm is 1800. These engines on Generator sets, have a safety featured that shuts them down if engine rpm reaches 2124rpm, to prevent this sort of thing..... I guess the off road trucks dont have this safety feature.

The truck ones go to 2000

The generator ones would have the controller to protect the generator
So it can't over rev and burn it out

It would suck if the truck driver was to over rev
The engine shuts off then he looses brakes and steering
Lol

A saftey switch wouldn't have helped this engine

It didn't even compression lock it simply exploded

yup, the all the safety features are programmed into the control panel, Overspeed Lop Hwt,etc I've seen a couple rods hanging out of blocks in the field,(seen them but wasn't around during the failure, thank god). But man I've never seen one as bad as the one in your link. That's a pretty horrific failure!
