Are briggs flywheel tapers all the same under 5hp?

I have a tired 3.5hp briggs 91200 with a crank that ends at the flywheel threads. There is a shortblock I'm looking to buy but being a newer one there is a shaft that extends beyond the flywheel threads. Is the taper the same though? Can I just cut that extension off at the threads and mount the 91200 parts?

I once had a 1963 2hp B&S where I swapped parts from a 1997 3.75hp vertical shaft engine with no problems.
The parts I swapped out were the coil and flywheel as I wanted to eliminate the points on the old engine.
Of coarse the newer flywheel was much lighter than the old original 2hp flywheel.

All I can say is, if you have one, try it but, I wouldn't go spending money as you'll probably find they don't match...

The 3.5hp engine is a different size to the 5hp, the 5hp is a larger block & has a bigger crankshaft (a 3.5hp PTO shaft is 5/8", a 5hp PTO shaft is 3/4"); one would assume that if one end of the crankshaft is larger, the other end would also be larger... whether the taper is different, that I cannot answer...
