Arctic Cat 550cc enough?

Hi. New guy here. I have a 1995 arctic cat ZR550 snowmobile. Tried to sell it last year.. no replies. I have decided to build myself a buggy.

I want to have some decent low end( with a good sixed atv tire on the rear) and still have some go-fast.. lol Do you think this motor will be enough? I have even thought about using the clutch that is on it, going to a jackshaft with a sprocket. then to axle. that way I can play with gearing. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

That motor is plenty. I have a 440cc and it flies! The key is in the gearing. Before you do anything, search this forum for snowmobile buggies and karts. Many have all ready done this and know what to look out for. Since you have the sled, you'll be using the clutch set-up as well as the frame around the engine and secondary. Also find the thread by "Killdozer". It has some good pics.

I love the quote about asking for forgiveness. That made my day. I need help. I got a snowmobile engine 340cc and need to build a jackshaft mount??? This engine is going on a home built minibuggy. I'm 61 and new ideas always help.

hey man find out what size axle you need and buy some pillow block bearings, it may be splined, take a few pics and post them up,
