ARC Top Plate Install Question for Clone

OK...I have a HF clone and got the ARC throttle top plate. I removed all of the brackets that held the old throttle pieces on. That includes the arm that was bolted to a shaft that goes into the crank case. This rod is for, I think, some oil splash guard? Well, there was a clip on there to hold the shaft up untill I started the engine. The clip fell off and I think that the "splash guard" inside the crank case started hitting the crank shaft. Loud clanking and me scrambbling to hit the kill switch.

I have seen the video on you tube about removing the governor and they bend the "splash Guard". I do not want to remove the governor because my 9 year old will blow up the engine. And, I don't want to take the engine apart because everything is finally in place and I will have to remove a lot of stuff. Any Ideas???

it may be inside the pull start / engine cover. remove the 3 bolts that hold the pullstart on, and use a magnet on a telescope to get the part out between the flywheel and the engine cover. I dropped a nut in there once, and that is how I got it out

I know that its not in there because I dropped a small allen wrench in there and just pulled it out before I had the problem. The sound started when I reved it up. It was fine at idle.

I don't think you can install that top cover with the gov. still intact. It sounds like you took the gov. arm off and the shaft that leads to the gov. gear fell into the crankcase. You are going to have to take the side cover off and investigate.

Well....The shaft was still sticking up untill I started tinkering with it. Now the shaft has fallen down flush with the top of the motor and the engine is locked up.

I REALLY don't want to have to pull the side cover because of all the work to get at it, but if I have to then i guess I have to.

It REALLY REALLY sounds like you have to. Youtube has tutorials on those clone engines. Pretty easy you can take it apart and reassabemble in 30 minutes if its ur first time. I can strip a briggs to the block and reassemble in 20:19 Timed =)

YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE SIDE COVER OFF! That arm that was bolted to a shaft going into the crank case is your governor. Its not an oil slinger, the slinger is on the bottom of your rod.The engine stopped moving because it is now hitting the crank. If you remove the governor, you HAVE to take the internal piece off or you iwll have this problem. Hopefully you didnt break anything inside of the engine. Im really surprised the first response to this didnt say anything about that being the governor. Good luck to you.
