i am going to build a 14s10p or maybe 20p battery pack using 18650s, however just in the planning phase for the battery. i know how to wire it up just stumbling what it should go in... and look so bulky but keeping things safe.

anyone else actually building these?

thanks

I did build one.. unless your paying top dollar for great batteries or salvaging them from laptop batteries, and doing all the testing to make sure you have the same mah .. I wouldn’t bother..

A simple battery to use and is coming down in price with higher discharge rate and 5000mah is a Ford C-Max battery.. the energi model has 24ah cells..

The basic pack is 76 cells of 5000mah 3.7nominal and 4.2 max voltage. They come with bus bars and leads you can use for balance wires and you can easily split the pack into whatever size needed... some junk yards have these packs for 2-300 .. I recently picked on up for $200

Pics of both..

i am building a powerwall with 18650s right now i have about 2200 batteries around me, each cell is rated for 2600mah and they all test for 2500mah or better.

i cant tell how you configured your battery, 13s or 7s? i planned on 14s for a 48volt.

cool find on the cmax, are you using it now?

The 18650 pack was 48v... the cheap cells were the downfall. My Chinese brushless motor sucked all the power out of them..

The nice thing is you have all those cells.. are you spot welding them?

The cmax cells are made by Panasonic and allow for higher discharge and higher charging amps..

For 75 minutes of hard racing I consumed 35ah of power , highest amp was 52amps used , 1860 watts.. my kart is was pretty efficient, but those cmax batteries never even got warm.. the motor on the other hand was hot

I purchased this kit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FBBDZQD and i am semi regretting it but my thinking its cheap, if i mess it up oh well and i have never done this before so its a good learning curve.

i hooked up a 36volt pack and not getting any movement, the wiring doc is pretty bad... i might have a few things crossed.

i am soldering them. so far not having issues with it. spot welding would be nice tho.

That kit is similar to what I run.. they have low voltage at I think 42v so anything under that it won’t run.. it also won’t run if you don’t have the speed selected, on/off or forward /reverse selected.
Wiring can be very tricky with these chinesium motor/controllers.. check everything multiple times..

I had a feeling that might be an issue with the 36v pack. Voltage on it was 42v. Going to try my luck with another brand.... or china factory HA!

Other kit came in, works fine was able to sort the cables better. At least they were labeled haha....

I did have to take two 36volt packs I have and connect them up to get over 48 volts... total was 80.... on the controller has a pin for 48 and 60v.

Motor got hot after about 8mins of full throttle then cut out, when it cools I'll check again. Ha....

Now I'll build a 48volt small pack to start.

Cheers.

My motor has taken a beating... hoping that 60 volt controller didn’t burn out.. most people say these controllers will take 12v no problem but 32v over, I don’t know..

Haha. Yeah I'm going to build a smaller 48 volt pack just for now and playing around. Total greenhorn on karts so I have time to figure out placement etc

I have built a few. I actually enjoyed the process. I purchased most of the 18650 cells from VRUZEND.com and always received a quality product. I put a 52V pack on a kids drifter go kart. It rocked! :cheers2:
