not for illegal reasons but just as a hobby or fun or retired. I just started getting into picking locks and it seems very simple for the most part, aside from the security pins. I make all my tools btw.

I can pick the lock on my tool box in under a minute with a paper clip. I need to get a pick set soon. Making some bump keys sounds like a good cheap idea too.

Yup hacksaw blades are the best or old steak knives too. I also used an allen wrench for one of my tension wrenches and it is my favorite one to use. I guess i can make a video later....

I go through hacksaw blades pretty fast so pretty soon ill have a whole set of burglary tools:devil2:

In all seriousness, you do know in some states its illegal to have burglary tools, homemade included. Although im not one to follow all the rules.

Its only illegal to have burglary tools with intent to commit a burglary or break in somewhere. Although a cop can always be a prick if he wants. Bump Keys are legal to only have on your own property for your own home.

I used what i think is a chainsaw file but cant be sure. Its probably a 3 or 4mm round file. I just put the key in the vise and run the file through each valley (usually 4 or 5) and then wire wheel the key to clean it up and smooth it out. Maybe I will make a video of that too.

If I remember correctly keys are cut on a number system, it goes 0-9 for each notch, some actually have the code stamped on em. If you make a 99999 key and file the end and shoulders down a bit, smacking it while turning will "bump" the pins into position and unlock.

correct. But having a key cut to 999 is illegal without a locksmith licence. And then you still have to bring it down to appx. 9.5 cut. I make my keys in a vise with a file in under 10 minutes. You don't have to cut down the shoulder, but I do it myself too, and have seen much better results. Any household key you have lying around will work. If the key fits into the lock you can bump it 9/10 times.

Hmm... so hacksaw blades would be a better thing to use rather than scroll saw blades?

it should work fine. The video was for you to understand how so shape the picks.

Wow! You guys got this down to a science! Back in high school just to be a pain, I'd pick a bunch of padlocks on people's lockers and switch them all around. I had pretty good success with a paperclip bent in half with one end maybe 1/8" longer than the other. Repeated twisting motions would work fairly quickly...
