Does anyone have this bender? I bought it from speedwaymotors.com for $240. I ONLY got it because it does 1" square tube, and will do 180* bends, but only upto 7/8" round.....
I tried a piece of 1" square today and could not get it to budge at all, even using 5' of pipe extension on the handle. Does the 7/8 round with minimal effort. Might have to modify it to use the ram from my HF hydraulic bender.... Any thoughts?

For 1" & 3/4" square, it's states .063 wall thickness. And that's what I use to build karts. I have 50-60' of it still. Sole purpose of buying this bender.... Agitated at the moment.... LoL

With the bender mounted in/on a bench vise?!? Not gonna happen.

Square tubing is strongest when the load is applied squarely to one of it's faces; when you apply a load to it, you have two sides with the maximum cross sectional thickness aligned to help handle the load. It's the same reason properly designed I beams have the largest axis (center web) aligned with the maximum loading for it's cross section.

I posted in another thread about this bender that it is a POS. I bought the Hines version which is supposed to be the originator. I actually bent my bender. I called Hines and they said they would refund me my money. Took that money and used it toward a JD2.

The dies are wrong

Square benders have a convex bend inside the die so it pushes the wall in a bit

Makes it easier to bend

Although Iv only seen square tube benders in fab shops making pickup trays
They're all hydrolic powered and will bend anything u want at a push of a button

That's exactly how this one works, Fowler. Gonna have to convert this to a hydraulic set up......
Anyone have a simple idea how to convert it?

EDIT:

Watched the video.. not sure how you could go hydraulic. Will likely need to build a new fixture and just use the die?

Try a bigger leverage pipe? haha.....

It looks like a decent bender for the price? A JD2 would be atleast that WITHOUT a die.

I would be more interested in bending tubing with it.. anyone else have one of these?

I have that bender, but I had them swap out the square die for a 1" round. Only use
D it a couple times. I welded a mount to my welding table. Takes some effort to get the bend started. Can't compare it to a "real" bender.

You probably have the Hines version. I had it and then bought the 1" square die from one of the copiers. The square die is all I have left as I returned the Hines bender for a refund. My manual said it was capable of bending .080 but it really didnt like that. They must have changed the rating. I felt like the threads in the dies were going to strip out eventually with the way that plate was pulling on the bolt. I am glad I sent it back and that they refunded my money.

Sorry to say this Jim but, you wasted your money. I've done extensive research on that type of bender & came to the conclusion that they're no good for what we do, the dies are only light duty, rated for a maximum 1.2mm (0.0472") WT.

If you try to use the dies in a hydraulic setup, the only thing you will achieve is destroying the dies...

The top bar is bent and so it the adjusting screw..... Yep Tony, what a waste.... Speedway says they will take it back for full refund.... :censored:
