Hey guys pretty new here, I attend a few 3 day shows a year and decided to check on prices of a golf cart whoa big mistake even the junk ones are 2000 ish. anyone ever built something that would say hold 4 people and a cooler top speed of 10ish and not real low to the ground? any good threads or plans out there?

I see what you're getting at ;)

There are loads of singles & a few 2 seaters around but, I don't think anyone here has built a 4 seater anything; I don't see it being too big a deal though, the biggest problem would be transporting it :lolgoku:

I don't know of any plans as such but, I'm sure, collectively, we can come up with something...

Regarding price, you do realise that, by building something from scratch, it'll probably cost close to what you'd pay for a used golf cart; the other thing to consider is prices vary depending on location; what costs $2000 where you are (please fill out your profile so we know where that is...) may cost as little as $500 100 miles away; if you're willing to travel a bit, you may want to try looking a bit farther away, if for no other reason than to cure your curiosity...

I have been thinking of doing the same thing.
See... http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25774&highlight=quad+kart

I am still considering this project for one day. I think a yerf dog might be the kart to do it on like last pic in my thread. Done by another member on another forum.

Here was my sketch. buckets up front so rear passengers on bench seat can put their feet on sides of bucket seats

There we go filled it out, im from kentucky, names Daniel. I dont mind traveling lol, even if i could find a non running golf cart relatively cheap id be game, but even those around here seem to be a little pricey for something im going to use a few times a year. I just figured if I could go to the scrap yard and come out with alot of the stuff I would need id do it but like you said chances are is that it will be close to the price of a golf kart, just like last winter i decided to be a pioneer and design and build my own 4 link suspension for my 67 camaro and it ended up being 3/4 the price of a cheap bought kit however performs closer to the kits that are tripple that. but at the same time if I built it, the full price of the project wouldnt all come out of my wallet at once at least and it would be exactly what i wanted lol.

Truthfully I want something that will haul 4 people around at a car event and have a cooler built in for lets say soda's .

and one of the things about most karts is that there low to the ground, which makes since when ur building for speed and handling. i want it to set up about as high as a golf cart so its easy to get in and out of.

I like your design there something like that is close to what i want i actually borrowed a golf cart that would hold 8 people one year it was awesome. i even though about getting one of those rediculously big coolers that are close to 4 foot long and making that the front seats, just mount a bench seat cushion on top and make a back rest lol. idk im just brainstorming the show im talking about is next week and usually I borrow or rent a golf cart and just getting tired of doing that every year so maybe when i get back from it this year it may be design time for me.

That could be a fun project to finish up. I have always thought about making a big Semi and trailer to haul kids and people around. Could even make the trailer into a pool and haul that around. Would need a little bit more than a common side shaft engine for it though. Maybe one day I may build all these ideas I have floating around in my head.

lthen i could finish it out however i wanted

That was my first thought; all the important gear is there, chassis, wheels, steering, possibly brakes...; all you need to do is add an engine, seats & a bit of bodywork to your liking... after you make sure everything else works :lolgoku:

You can't go wrong for the price... unless it's at the other end of the country...

......Ok, I don't get it, I can't tell if it's in Lebanon or Cincinatti ...

Tony, Lebanon is a bedroom community outside of Cincinnati; and no, you aren't going crazy trying to figure that out. During the 1800's, when North America was settled, the con men trying to get rich quick would mine history and literature for place name's, all in the name of the quick buck..

Some of the most grandiose name's usually show up on the most barren of places.......

Ah, I see now... after consulting google maps; I didn't realise Ky was that far north, I always considered it a "southern" state...

Anyhoo, :backtotopic:
