Hey, my name is Klay and I'm new to the forum. I bought this body off a guy last weekend. It's a Shelby Cobra kart body and supposed to be a 1/2 scale. Anyway I was wondering if anyone here has ever built a kart using one of these and if so what it looks like and what parts you used. Right now my plan is to build the frame and have a full suspension under it. I may build the frame like the original cars were just scaled down. It will be for my child in a few years so I'm thinking 2 seater and I want to make it look as much like my full size replica as possible but not going too crazy. Thought it would be cool to bring both to car shows and stuff. Any info or thoughts would be great.

Nice find! I've never even seen a Cobra kart before, but I'd take some wheelbase, track width, and height measurements off it, and hit the drawing board from there. Welcome to the forum, keep us posted on your build!

Thanks guys! I'll try to take some pictures of it this weekend with my wife's good camera. I want to take some measurements and start working on some sketches and figure out what direction I'm going to go with it. I don't plan on being it a big hurry with it but I'll try to post pictures of the progress as I go for those that are interested.

As for the halibrand wheels I have found these that kind of have the look. They even sell a center cap for them that looks like a knock off.

I also thought about these...

I have Cobra R wheels on my replica and thought I would go with something along those lines to make both cars look very similar but 4 lug and 5 spoke are hard to come by.

ide say either go with a kart that looks like the real thing. which is probably easier and a little more original....or make it like a monster truck go kart with huge tires and the small body haha. But nice find. thats a sick body

Yeah, it will look as close to mine or an original as I can get it. I'm not really into the monster truck cobra look. ;)
