Well i got the clone engine finished today so i drove around and had no problem its a beast!!! but i went to go install the box stock trick springs with my shiny new feeler gauge to aid me than i go to loosen the rocker arm stud nuts and...snap! So now im really p1ssed and my new engine doesnt work:horse::horse: woo hoo but i did go and order some new ones from BSP for like 5 bucks and every things okay but does anyone know what i did wrong because i dont think thats supossed to happen.

did u turn it the wrong way (sorry had to ask)

the last persom props did it too tight

did u try and jerk the spanner /socket or did u just pull it till it snapped

sudden movments can snap it

well i was still trying to loosen the lock nut when it snapped and i had a wrench on the bottom nut i hit the wrench with my hand a few times so fowler your probably right bout what happened is it safe to install the new rocker arm setup without torquing the nuts or should i go rent one?

A torque wrench is one of the most essential tools for engine work, and it can save you a whole crap load of trouble. trust me I know from experience.

A little cheap pointer type from HF will work. spending $200 on a tool that is used on an engine like these is nuts.
You don't need a tourqe wrench on the rocker studs anyway. I mean whats the tourqe spec on a double nut lock down.

i have a $10 torque wrench from harbor freight and it works fine.

i rarely torque anything though because im too lazy to find the exact specs. never had a problem though.

yes i admit i tightened a clone con rod to "feels good" and hours later on the motor nothing has happened. i did use loctite.

but he was undoing it

u should never ever use a toque wrench in reverse unless spesifyed

it can f then up quick smart itll put them way out of calibration

if u wanna break the nut loose then use a breaker bar or link two spanners together

iv got a catterplier one made by snap on
some of the snapon ones have reversable rachets

@ Russ, and Bighead, what I'm saying to go out and buy a $200 tourqe wrench, or $120 calipers, to work on a $150 engine is crazy. Now if you have a use for it other than a couple go kart engines, then yes a high doller tool is worth the investment.

I have high doller tools from many years as a aircraft engine machinist. These have been sent in for calibration yearly , I also have some HF calipers and a cheap pointer type tourqe wrench, never been calibrated. They both read the same.

So I guess my point is, you don't need high doller tools, if you use some reasonal care and common sense. The OP, in his disassembly did not. But he learned a lesson, and to let him spend a lot money on something he doesn't need, is not helping him.
