buying this go kart tomorrow (sunday).it has a 5hp tecumseh.owner told me it has a updated new carb on it.it has been sitting under a tarp completely covered and the engine was wrapped up too for 1-1/2 years.only looked at it over a fence.any idea what make or model it may be? gas was drained before it was put up.
also open to suggestions how to improve it.don't really have a budget on it just whatever it takes.thinking maybe changing to the 8 hp predator.
only paid $50.00 for it.

You are stealing that at 50 bucks. Nice score. The torque converter alone is worth at least 2 or 3 times that.

got it home.can tell it is going to need a seat, throttle cable.he told me he hit a tree is reason front is bent a little.welded bolt in t/c was already welded when he got it and he never tried to take it out.he put some gas in it and it started up.carb was leaking and guess it is flooded now because it won't start.

It's a Streaker go kart, not a Manco dingo. If I were you I'd sell the engine for $40 and buy a new predator 212cc from harbor freight for $100.

good news,it starts and runs,t/q works good and so do the brakes.throttle sticks open because it has no return spring.was suprised at power and speed from just a 5hp engine.

well after much thought decided to go with the 6.5 hp predator instead of the 8hp.
i also may replace the torque converter too.trying now to find a new throttle cable but all i am finding are to long.
as for the old engine once i get it replaced i am willing to give it to someone who has a need for it.if i replace the torque converter it will go with it also.
still open to suggestions on what to do to it.
thank you in advance for any input.

It's rare that a TC needs to be replaced, a good bit of maintenance usually gets them back to a good, functioning condition...

A throttle cable is as cheap & simple as a bicycle brake cable cut down to the desired length...

well have gotten the outside of the driver pulley off but can't get the inside pulley off.it will come out to the edge of shaft and stops.used a puller gently, didn't want to bend pulley with no luck.have tried to drive key way back with a punch with no luck.
any ideas or suggestions?
thanks in advance for any help.

if you can, crank up the engine and while it's running take some sandpaper/emery cloth to the shaft. wrap the emery cloth around the shaft while it's running for a min or so than it shouls slide rite off. i do believe the inside pulley has a built in key.

If you want a shiney front bumper, get the single loop
lower bumper for a KG kart (Comet has them, you can get them cheaper if you look online).
Fishmouth each end where it attaches the frame.
Then cut it in the middle and narrow it to fit your frame.
Go to the hardware store and get a piece of copper tube that fits inside and use it as a slug.
You don't need to weld it in the middle, once it's welded to the frame on either end it ain't gonna move.
Voila!
Chrome bumper.

And yes, I changed the tie rods so they're both straight.

have already cleaned the shaft until it is shiny.have let it soak for hours with both penetrating oil and wd40.

than do it some more. the part you need to focus on is where it stop's. what the ha!! is this ?
that is not the correct carb for that engine.

was told by who i bought it from carb had been changed.
the red bracket was the throttle cable which had a tendency to hang wide open throttle.
will just keep polishing shaft and soaking it in wd40 or penetrating oil.
