Thank you for the info, JUST8420! VERY hard to find this stuff. Kinda hard to believe a dual-carb Polaris puts out less hp than a single-carb Sachs of similar displacement, but who knows- it was the 70s!
Here are a couple more detailed pix of my Polaris/Fuji 295.... the fuel pump is pretty self-explanatory, and the clutch decal is the only written info I have on it.

so whats the deal with the fuel pump is it really needed
can i just have it be gravity fed or what
also on my carbs there are two ports one is fuel in and the other looks like vac any ideas what i would need a vac port for or should it just be pluged also most likely does not matter but my coils are different from yours do you still have the engine tag that has the model #s on it? just for research

You should be able to go gravity if you want. There's a vacuum port behind the fuel pump that would need to be sealed off if you remove the pump. The extra ports on the carb(s) might be vent lines from the bowls. Mine doesn't have them. I also don't have an ID plate on mine. I had to figure out CCs by the stroke dimension. Since I had Ed's 440 sitting nearby, it was easy to figure that my motor was smaller.... MUCH smaller!
Is your fuel pump messed up?
I hope you use your motor for the project. These things are pretty neat. I had to have one just to have it, and now since my Sachs no longer runs, I'll end up using it.

Sorry to dig up an old topic, but I just got a buggy with what I was told is a 440cc Polaris. It looks almost identical to the pictures you've posted. I'm having a helluva time finding parts for it, specifically a new CDI. Have you found any good sources for these engines?

Comb ebay. It's really the only place I've found my stuff. Sorry I have been so stagnant- but too many other things are requiring my time and limited funds right now. Luckilly, I kept all the motors and frames for future projects.
