Any experience with this Torque Converter

Hello all - New to the forum.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this TQ from NRRacing:

If not, how about the company itsself? I emailed them about the HP rating on the TQ and asked if it could handle 13+ since there is no mention of whether or not it has 40 series pulleys. I got a reply saying that they have had no issues of them coming back and should be good beyond 13hp. I just didn't get a warm and fuzzy from that - although I really like the cost at 1/2 of the Gopowersports kit.

Any thoughts?

GTC torque converters are a pricey Comet clones.
I assume better quality checked chinese copies (specifically made for GTC)
maybe US made nevermind..

its NOT 13hp rated.. according to GTC (gtcmanufacturing.com) it's 7hp rated!
(and 10 bucks cheaper )

also that's the Tav clone (pressed sheet metal backplate), not the Tav2 (cast aluminium)
and it's for sure a series 30 kit (both of them)!
GTC uses aluminium backplates of different style on both ..
one smaller lighter less sturdy (the one you linked 7hp rated Tav style)
and one a 1:1 copy of the cast aluminium TaV2 backplate.
The cast backplate version GTC sometimes indeed labels as good for up to13hp,
just like Comet used to in some occasions.
Never 13+hp ...

GTC makes copies of all comet TCs though,
so if you want a series 40 then that's also an option.

personally I really do not like the GPS backplate kit for a series 40;
A series 40 should NOT be on a backplate like a tav-kit IMO.

Not sure what true max is, but 13hp is not a problem. Have not heard of any issues holding power, but have heard of installation issues. It is tight fit.

I was wondering what the max HP rating was on the torque converter kit you offer (GTCTC).* Wasn't sure if it would handle 13+ HP that the 40 series kits are rated for.

technically I do not see why the TC itself should fail with 13 horses (or 15 or whatever...)
the problem you will encounter though is that the belt will have some serious trouble holding on to the sheaves...
the belt is the weak point of all Torque converters, and the series 30 is much smaller (narrower and thinner) than the series 40 belt.
since it relies on friction and slip to work properly (minor slip is needed to allow it to move up and down the sheaves; grip is needed to actually transmit the torque)
chances are the belt will suffer from a too powerfull engine.
(means the belt will wear prematurely and it's going to be expensive to keep buying new belts)

everything else should be fine... the pulleys should not see any additional abuse (maybe some skit marks of the belt) the spring should be good as well, and frankly I don't even think the backplate would suffer much (the smaller one might bend.. the larger one is unlike to do so I'd think)

Anyways, overall the TC itself should be fine..
Soooo in a way you could argue that it's holding the power and it was an installation issue that you run through belts like crazy

Personally I'd stick with the Comet info
series 30 no matter what type [bare, TAV or TAV2] to 8hp for sure below 13hp
(we've seen lots of modded 200cc engines with 10 and more hp running series 30 TCs just fine)
above that series 40 or better.
