looking for breaker box replacement, house is from 72 and i only have 50 amp service. need to update to 100 minimum and more room in box.

most of the house is aluminum wiring which will change little by little.

i was told also that if i change the box i need to change the main line in. not too sure of that or not

Yes, you will have to change the lines that come in. As long as you are doing that, upgrade to a 200 Amp service. It's not much more and gives you a lot of extra breaker room for all those 220V appliances. Some electric companies still change your 'line in' for free. Check your area.
