I was thinking Rupp too. except the narrow hoop for the steering upright.
So do you own it? Nice kart.

I gave 100 bucks for it ...yes the paint covers up the original red color the previous owner put on it...I know ita a bit old it has the metal stop flipper that has stop printed on it by the bare spark plug. I can imagine how many kids of the day rock paper scissors to shut it off. It needs slot of work. I noticed the underside where the seat mounts needs some welds. Needs a good sand blast...clutch and band brake and throttle cable and pedal springs...the engine has years of goop built up so I'm thinking leaky seals and it only stays running if you hold the throttle. Major rebuild there..I don't know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As the frame seems solid and not warped just that ugly paint the welding and covered up surface rust. Thanks again

I meant to say the previous owner painted it to cover the original red. He sprayed the engine black and although I know it's a Briggs I see no plates to identify it. I'll pull it back out tomorrow when I get a chance shoot some more photos of the trouble spots and the engine to see if it helps some. I did notice on the floor pan beneath the steering shaft it appears to have been a large sticker the shape of the frame. I don't know if any manufacturer did that to their karts but I know those types of stickers used to be used on bikes in the 70s and 80s. Almost like a foil.

Yeah, Alot of guys end up identifying their karts by posting even part of an old floor pan sticker and someone here recognizes it. Maybe a little paint stripper will reveal the sticker without eating it LOL

Well that's a classic Briggs flathead, a piece of history, but take heart as there's tons of aftermarket parts support for that engine. Since the whole kart is basically complete, I'd concentrate on the engine just to get the kart moving first.

100 bucks. Good score!

The model number and codes should be stamped on the right side of the blower housing--as it is now, that's the side facing the back of the driver seat. But aside from all that, I can tell it's a pre-1990's engine.

Here's a link to a site I found this morning to the carb that's installed. Scroll to picture 7 with the slide choke. http://outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/briggs_pulsa-jet_horiz_adj.asp
I'm going to take some last photos of everything before I start tearing the old girl down and looking for some one to blast the frame and weld up the floor pan. That should give me enough time to inventory what I need gather up some fresh bolts and start rebuilding it. I'd like to go back to factory colors but then again may let my kids decide. But I promise it won't be Doo Doo brown. Lol

Yes I figured if someone knew the era the engine was in maybe it would help with the kart id...Long shot I know cause it may not have originally came with it. But just trying to shoot out as much info as I can to see what I'm working with. I do appreciate all the help. I may start a rebuild thread while watching to see if anyone has a clue to what she is.

Just wait....some crazy German will probably tell you the name of the guy that welded it the day it was made!

Yes, I'm learning to read, all over again.

I was alluding to engine repairs or at least a complete teardown, inspection and reassembly. However if you hunt down the "Code" numbers (last set of numbers) from the engine serial number, you can pinpoint the year, month, day, assembly line and the manufacturing plant that made it. You might be able to date the kart this way.

It a model 80202 type 1516...made June 20th in 1983. Plant is 03 where ever that is.

Well got the engine running the linkages were all off wack. Let it run for about 30 mins and she ran good. The clutch is gone..it was loose in the housing missing c clip and no retaining bold in the shaft along with a missing key way screw killed it..all in all replace that the throttle cable and brake band it's drivable.

That's good news, but get thee an air filter and make haste with ye!

A lot of the kart sites and even evilbay sells "racing" style filters that feature low restriction and they're a perfect fit for that type of Pulsa-Jet carb. I'd rather stay away from the stock, oiled foam, flat can style. A header would be nice too, just to hear the "Doopa-doopa" sound.

Hope you changed whatever oil it had in it. Go for straight 30 weight.

I do have the cleaner for it it was just off because the linkage was wrong. No I didn't change the oil yet because it's gonna get pulled and cleaned and or replaced. I did make sure it was as proper level. I just need to figure out the easiest was to strip that nasty paint off now while I wait for parts.

I thought Germans preferred beer at room temp?

Heck I'll microwave it if that's what it takes to figure it out haha

Well there's mechanical and chemical paint removal. I just discovered the ferocity of the angle grinder recently, after years of using a drill for my wire brushing and wow, what a difference.

Then the chemical type: spray on and scrape off like cake icing but dealing with the whole procedure and the resultant liquefied paint may be a toxic experience and nuisance, what with the fumes and all.

Also, that seat or chair rather, is probably not original to the kart, aye?
