Anything is "possible". Is it worth the effort is another question. The effort in this case is likely herculean.

don't mind putting in the time but don't want to go broke trying it. would love to to do it though just have never messed with small engines before.

it's either that or just turn the mower into a off road toy.

Better to start with the obligatory 3.5hp push mower engine. I think someone here converted one ? If anything, surely there is some on you tube.

I have a small collection of Briggs oppys Id like to see about converting one of those... someday...

Get a really good seat belt and turn your go kart sideways. Lol!! Im actually wanting to build a race mower I have a similar engine. Im thinking a torque converter installed on the bottom of your engine with the chain running to a large sprocket on a ragb then ragb to rear axle. I've no idea how it would work. Plenty of space on a mower for that, it would have to be a really good use of space on a kart unless its a 2 person buggy then it would be wide enough. My theory is that since you are running the tc first, then to a large sprocket on the ragb that you would be within the rpm limits of a lot of them that say 1800 or so max rpm however rated for like 40hp. The ragb output and axle sprocket would be a 1:1 ratio.

You're looking at an easy $500. I plan on doing it anyhow just cause I want the mower. Just a live axle rear end, no need for tranny with the tc. Again, I haven't ever done this no idea how it would work.

Also, there's always the twist the belt 180 idea and a manual clutch. Not a great setup. Maybe a really good fab guy could pull that off no idea. I've used twisted belts on horizontal electric grinders but never high rpm high hp. You could always go twisted belt direct drive lol! I had a twin 2-stroke kart with direct drive as a kid. Yeah only run about 70mph with twin mc101aa's lol. We would take turns push starting each other or pulling it with my friends motorbike. No kidding. Scary thing is we didnt have a kill switch so pray the brakes and throttle dont screw up. Of course getting a mac to die is as easy as getting a new honda to start. You have to really know your stuff to run those, let alone twins.
