Hello from Santa Fe Texas.
Picked up all of the parts for my sons go cart (minus frame) as an early Christmas present. It has been a fun project working with him on the build. I very much appreciate all of the advise that is avaliable on this site. We've learned a lot but still have a lot to learn. Not good with computers, but I'll try to post some pics of what we have so far. Thanks again.20181218_200817.jpg

I think I liked it better w/o the -let me call it- windshield :D
but yeah nice work indeed..

if it's half as sturdy as it looks it'll more than suffice ;)

Yes sir, me too, BUT the wife wanted some sort of roll over protection other than the main hoop. Didn't want to add the extra weight, but didn't want to get her all reved up if he does roll it. Might build another one with the main hoop brought forward so the driver is completely under it and leave the front section open. I'm having more fun with this than the drag cars we build. Thanks

hehe.. I feel for you :D
Mom's are not exactly good designers when it comes to kid's toys ;)
(I even hear some asking for belts in non rollbar/cage karts ... and that is a terrible idea!)

Anyways, from the pics I'd said the rollbar is high enough to protect your kid's neck in case of him rolling it.
I might be wrong though (hard to tell dimensions/distances on pics at times)

Ah well.. now it's there ;)

The kid will have a metric ton of fun either way, and that's what counts most..
and if mom's happier now with additional safety measures... even better :D

That thing is a Beast! Very nice job!
Looks "beefy" enough to set a Chevy on :smiley_omg:
...actually, the first pic looks like the Vette is just a body your gettin' ready to set upon the kart :lolgoku:

What size tubing & thickness you using?

Weapon of Choice for Propulsion Unit?

1 1/4'' x .065 wall 4130 for the upper and lower main rails, side verticles, and rear bars. Everything else is 1'' x .058 wall 4130. I tend to over build things most of the time. It's heavier than I would like (221 dry) but with a 5 point harness, the boy should be fairly safe. That makes momma happy. Gonna start with a 212 until he gets used to it then go from there. Wasn't sure what gearing to go with for such a heavy cart. Has a 7.50 right now with a converter. Hopefully it isn't a turd. Still have a lot to figure out.

Yes sir, all tig. No pre or post heat, Same process we use on the door car chassis (drag race). We use 6736b condition N tubing with a er70s2 rod.

VERY nice!! I wish I could build something like that. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

I actually like the rollbar/windshield part, it gives it a "dunebuggy" look...you could even put a windshield on it (plexiglass maybe?) to keep the wind off him it if it cold where you live.
