Not so much a kart, but I'm sure there's some that'll be interested

It's my old trike I had when I was younger, seemed so much bigger 10 years ago!

Picked it up from my nans today and got straight to work!

Plans are to fit a GX160 engine and have a bit of fun on the way.

It's going to be running rather low, with a matt black/red details and perhaps white wall tyres. Possibly ape hanger style handle bars or maybe a low slung straight bar.

Here's how it sits after todays effort, next job is to extend the frame length ways as my knees are up near my ears at the minute!

Loads of info on here by the looks of it, but I do have a few questions!

Will it be okay to fix the drive to the rear axle? I'm not after silly speeds, it'll be more of a cruiser, is 20mph optimistic?
What size wheels would you recommend? And sprocket sizes too.

Thanks in advance,
Ben.

Nice trike you have.. personally I like the orange wall ;)

Now, yes 20 mph is very possible.
I'd recommend 11" tall tires maybe even those edgy old school slicks
(4.1 x 3.5 on 5" rims)

And a 6:1 gear ratio should be perfect for your needs, since with a governed engine (3600 rpm) and 11" tires it ends up @ 20mph top speed.
and has plenty of torque to reach that :D

in sprocket sizes, that'd be 12 on the clutch and 72 on the axle.. or 10 on the clutch 60 on the axle.

Nice drift trike:thumbsup:(made for down hill drifting... originally).

I have a concern about your idea... that thing is literally a paperweight... Not sure youll be able to put the front tire on the ground after a motor is on it(as is). I forsee a wheely every engine rev, just from the torque.... now... if you stretched the rear(behind the seat, as to where the motor sat infront of the rear axle... then I see some GREAT potential:thumbsup:... maybe a drag trike:idea2:?... but guess that would have to break the 20 mph mark... lol

I do too but it's been sat for years with flat tyres so they've perished :(

That's great, thank you!

Maybe I can still get it to drift

I hadn't actually thought about the weight over the back, it's getting extended anyway so we shall have to see what it feels like when I get an engine mounted up.
Drag trike, I like it! :wai:

Looks good, but where are you going to mount the engine, and where will the rear sprocket go? What are you going to do for brakes? Bicycle brakes will not do the trick with an engine on.

I'll be fabricating a complete back end, picked up some 25x3mm tube from work today.
The plastic wheels aren't staying lol, it'll use a solid rear axle with a disc brake set up, would mini-moto calipers do the trick or aren't they man enough? I'm only 11 1/2 stone wet through so there's not a huge amount of mass to haul down from speed!

If I had that... Id extend everything back proportionally to fit "me"... extend behind the seat bout a ft(for the motor). Id fab 2 hangars(for a 3/4" live axle... see how low it is n how little itll/"I" weight... it wont leave the pavement... n I have all that in scrap!). From there Im pretty sure it gives yall an idea. Id use band brakes... anything more would be alil over kill IMO.

However... I do forsee an issue runnin a live axle w/ 1 front wheel. Might be nice if you could get your hands on a lawn tractor/mower's axle/differential gear box!?! "That" way... you could do you 20mph cruizin...as well as drift/drag it! I wouldnt put ape hangars on it... but a fairing like off a crotch rocket, aswell as the handle bars(sorry Im a control lover, aswell as an import lover).

I got bike frames all over the place... I may have to build me 1... after all this thought on it...!

You've pretty much explained what I was planning! I extended the frame around 400mm last night.
3/4" axle is 19mm in our English world isn't it? I've got a few metres kicking around at work, would the be ideal for the axle? I assume you can get sprockets to suit that diameter.

I like it!

Don't know much about Karting and such but I do know motorcycles and that thing looks wild! But like someone has said watch out for the wheelies when you crank it up. Please let me know what the finished product is I may want to build one for my grandson. When he gets older that is.

19.05mm to be exact... Solid bright round bar will be perfect...

Please fill in your profile so we know where you are...

Marvelous, I'll see what I can find.

Oh yes, I'll get to that now!

I'm certainly concerned about the wheelies, although cool, it'd soon get irritating every time I pull away! Need to look into a clutch system so it's not quite the 'on/off' when it comes to accelerating.
I'll let you know how it goes :cheers2:
