Okay guys so I just saw my neighbor as he just came back from out of town since he’s out of work now. We were discussing karts and how we want to get back into kart racing but we plan to go together in East Lansing, He’s starting to have trouble fitting in the red go kart in another one of my thread. He said he’ll sell me the kart with everything but a seat, axle, and it needs brake caliper help. I worked everything out on a piece of paper and for about 450 I can get the kart, everything I need for the kart and all the gear I need to start karting, sound like a good deal to you guys?

not the best pics, but ones where you can tell whats going on, http://diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13074

id need the axle, 2 snap rings, i should get a better seat but the one on it is good and a new caliper,i need a better gas tank, the current is just a gas can,oh and a sprocket, as i have to change for my class anyway, all together, and i need to get some tire tread, the rear two have holes, for all this i would need about my budget of 450, then id need to get some gear, i can probablly get some for cheap tho,
will this gas tank work? ill be using a fuel pump http://diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13074

we also cant ID this kart, we think its margay, it had margay tires and spindles, but theres no serial number on the frame

Some tracks dont allow karts manufactured before around 2000 to compete, (and your neighbors kart definitely looks older than that). I'd suggest sending your pics to your tracks racing officials and ask them before buying it.

Whats the deal with the axle not being included? Would you be getting all of its hubs and the brake rotor?

You might be able to just replace the o-rings in that caliper instead of buying a whole new one.

I cant tell if that's a Margay or not but these links might help you tell:

The axle isint included because everything for that kart is for 1 1/4 and his in an inch. Were also using it ok a diffrent project. I'd be getting the hubs and all, so in the end I need the axle, two snap rings, I need a new gas tank for the floor, and a sprocket to go for my class, the calipers bleed screws are stripped and broke as a resut to the accident of his other kart, I'm going to pick up the Mcp brake caliper at comet and axle and tank at bmi karts, and also a sprocket from there, and then some new tires To go on the rims because the ones now are almost gone, so I figure I could be racing and ready for anything for about 500-550 And that's better than paying 700 for something I don't know much about, he's also throwing in the motor, robertson three stage header, 5/16 muffler 90 jet, air filter, mikuni fuel pump and no governor. I'm also getting the clutch and chain,

Ok, just make sure your new axle either has keyway machined all the way across, or at least in every location you'll be needing. You might also go out to the track and measure how wide the axles (and rear track width) are on the karts that are winning in your class. And then order that width axle for your kart.

You could buy new brake bleeders with over-sized threads from an auto parts store. Then tap your caliper out to the larger matching size if you wanna save some money...

Looks like your track has an open tire rule where you can race any brand/compound tires you want. So before you order your new tires I'd suggest going out to the track and checking out the winning karts in the class you'll be racing in, and then buy whatever brand/compound they're running. Different brands of tires (and how hard/soft the rubber compound is) can make a huge difference in how well your kart will hook-up on that particular track, so you might as well order the same model tires that the top drivers have determined to work best in your class.
