I do not think it's a good idea. :(
Look what I did and what happened.

Well, you can't beat first hand knowlege like that! I like building with wood sometimes because it can be fast and forgiving...but not so much when motorized. You'd have to be crazy to get road rash and splinters...ouch! But you did warn us =D

Do check out his thread though.

I've been to Durango. Big fan of the narrow gauge railroad there...welcome!

That guy had not much to work with, but used a local hardwood which probably helped his survivability. Bracing is key, aswell as not using it for offroad use helps the longevity of the machine and your life.

Now there's times when people will turn down your crazy ideas but u know they will work so u do it anyway and succeed

This isn't one of those times
Even if u drop a 0 off the cc s of the engine
(54)
U will still need allot of steel frame work to hold it together

With a 540cc
U can't even have a basic steel frame
Let alone a wood one

A nearly completely wooden kart is possible. The guy above wasn't even close though. Bracing is one thing, but wood choice, laminating and engineered curves are the main thing. Count on ten times the fab time minimum. More cost, most likely more weight, and if you're not a boat builder, or can build a winding staircase from scratch, probably not a good idea.

You're right...I wasn't thinking outside the [pine] box. My mind went 2x4s and such. But as soon as you said "curves" I could see a whole lot of possibilites...which is probably what he had in mind from the get go.

Gyminis...post some pics of what you had in mind

design?

:smiley_omg:I have to be totally honest! the design of the cart was primitive at best and any concept of reinforcement was not a concern or consideration

The problem or the cause of the accident was not the resistance, design or any fault in any components of the kart. The culprit was me, either by my irresponsibility or by my carelessness. I was driving too fast right through a village at night without lights. Do not see the giant speed bump was a very stupid accident
And as a rule, if you build something for off road, a good roll cage is a priority.
I think I already posted this video but... just in case
