All terrian go kart!!!!!!

Ok, I just got an awsome idea... MAKE A JON BAOT INTO A GOKART!!!!! I just bought a 12ft jon and was thinking about how to put some wheels on it so I could kinda wheelbarrel it to the river, then I thought: I totally want to just drive this thing to the river!

Wouldn't that be cool! if you are boating and need to portage a ****, just dive riteoutthe water and then back in!

So, I'm here to see what you guys think of the idea, is it do-able?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ as said above, it wont be just throwing wheels on a boat and bolt a motor on it and go.

youll have to waterproof the axles, drive system, also figure out how to make the steering come into the boat without having a hole for the shaft to go through because it will leak. that has to be waterproof. it will be difficult to use a chain drive underwater because your chain will rust after the first 1-2 uses....

theres a ton of stuff to figure out....... see if you can find some diagrams of army duck boats and see how they do it.

You're probably better to just strap pontoons to your kart...

Go ahead and try- but don't be too shocked if it doesn't go well. If you choose to proceed, we can probably come up with some interesting possibilities.

This may not be impossible, but it'll be close. How would you transmit inboard power to axles outside without massive leaks? It would make the boat so heavy it would sink.

if your ok with it possibly not working, i say go for it!

-use very long spindle pivot tubes so they extend from a beam welded to the bottom of the boat, all the way to another beam welded a few inches over the edge of the boat. put pitman arms on the tube so they are above the edge of the boat.

- stainless chain to aluminum axle, sprocket, rims. (i think you can also buy quality plastic rims for go karts.

- make sure tires are fine in the water and don't float too much.

- put a jack shaft on the edge of the rear of the boat, then you can put the engine inside the boat instead of hanging off the edge.

-either get water proof bearings, or make water tight boxes to surround the bearings that bolt to the boat with a gasket between them and the boat.

-make sure the motor doesn't hit any components, and that the new wheels and such aren't to likely to get hit, or cause major issues with the boat.

- find brakes that that can survive under water. (they only have to work on land, but they can't be damaged by going under water)

make a floating boat trailer, tow the trailer with the boat, then put a low geared go kart on the trailer,

or, like TS said, get a cart, install pontoon's, get ATV sand paddle tires.

i would build a little like cart thing that the boat could sit on and like clamp on then when u want to go into the water unclamp it and slide it off would solve alot of your problems

put go kart (geared low) in boat, weld a beam to the front of the boat with a trailer coupling, install a trailer ball hitch on the Kart. weld a piece of rod to the rear of the boat, either use nuts or hitch pins to hold some wheels on to the rod so they can be removed before entering water.

Some interesting ideas guys, but I think I've solved my problems. The biggest challenge was steering, first I thought I'd use some sort of cable, like a brake line or somthing so I don't need to mess with puting holes in the boat. Eventually I decided that wheels arn't good enough, they sink in sand. My conlusion... CONTINOUS TRACK!!!!! Just like the tanks. that way I don't need a steering shaft or any of that. I'm either going to have two 6.5s or a couple of 1200 watt motors for the drive system.

Now for the second hardest part, money. I was stupid and went fishing on memorial day weekend without a liscens. 189 Doller ticket!!!! LAME!


So anyways, This bad boy won't be ready for probrably four or six months, when it is done I will take you on a vidoe tourer of my back yard and the river with its many sandbars.
