Hey guys, long time no post. Over 6 years by my making, pretty cool to see the site has become much more active but kept the old layout.

Anyways, I'm in the middle of my final exams and I'm planning a bit of a Summer project, sticking an engine on a regular pedal bike. I found these kits popping up a lot, usually through Irish re-sellers for extortionate prices, has anyone any experience with them?

I'm not really looking to set the world alight with anything, just a project more than anything.

Thanks!

I'm keeping the sig cos 12 year old me knew what was up.

as a project.. sure.. should be fun..

but do not get cought with these.. not street legal by european standards and in case you drive such thing on open roads... you might even risk your driver's license (or getting one any time soon)
You might want to check with local authorities to see if you actually need to be worried,
bu for now.. be slightly concerned :D

IDK I don't like them too much, they don't look too fancy IMHO, and their performance is basically below expectation (from what one could see on YT)

I'd rather find an old Sachs or even better MAW bicycle engine on ebay and use that instead tbh.
but that's just me :D

Ha I'm well aware they're quite illegal on the roads over here, so my licence is safe(ish)! Yeah it's just a project, and with these things so cheap is all my thinking. Parts (sprockets etc) and as readily available around me either, and my fabrication skills aren't as up to scratch as I'd like them to be to go for an all out DIY one.

Also, an 80cc kit shipped to Ireland is working out around €60 ($66), so I'm kinda thinking I may as well for a bit of craic.

KartFab, those are a bit more full on than what I'd be looking for, but thanks for linking. They're pretty mental looking!

There are many "motorized bicycles" around that are perfectly street legal
and pack about the same punch as that 80cc engine (2.5-3hp) although from much smaller combustion volumes (33cc to 49cc mostly)
just see what ebay has to offer to get an idea;
or IDK gumtree or what have you.

PS I got a motor for free on trash night ;).. but some show up for pennies in your local classifieds if you're patient enough... if not.. sure 60 bucks for a blast... that's nice.
PPS 50 bucks inkl bike on gumtree uk same 80cc engine ... check it out

(yes I know location location location... just to remind you to keep your eyes open more than asking you to buy it ;))
