Same gas ran it for a couple of weeks never hit 24mph always 23mph. When i change the muffler it now runs 24mph. Was cold both days. Also when brother rides it hits 25mph. guess what with his weight 25 mph. i get 24 mph. 25 pounds of weight shows even weight can make a different.governor still on.

Heh... removing the governor would give you lots more MPH...

eBay some parts man! :) They sell shaved heads with fireslots... plenty of aftermarket performance cams... forged rods, ect... :)

:confused:Can you see the conflict? (Rusty sees no hands raised) Something else is going on here...
what you mean russ you lost me there i dont under stand why you thing it cant go faster if the old muffler is not leting the exhaust out good enough.and i change to a straight pipe so now there is no resriction.:toetap05:

OK.
Let's 'assume' that pipe did add some HORSEPOWER/RPM.
You would in fact realize a gain in MPH.
Now, introduce the governor. Any increase would now be limited to the original 3600 RPM. Increased RPM=Increased Speed.
In order to gain MPH, RPM must be increased.

In other words:
Any gain in RPM (4000 for example) is now limited by governor to 3600.
1 MPH gain is due to something other than pipe.

well lets say than it now is letting the full power range of 3600 rpm of the motor flow with no resriction of the muffler. but just for you russ.... i will put the old one on tommarrow to see what happens and than put the new one on i will make sure tank is full and will let it warm up before i try both ways.russ i understand what you are saying but im telling you this kart is 1mph faster:wink2:

Ironman - There's always restriction somewhere...

You could gain quite a few HP if you tried to porting...

I'm not trying to give you a hard time on this subject,:cheers2: it's just that something doesn't sound right.
Straight exhaust has no way of overriding a preset governor. Even if this mod gave you 20 hp, your engine will still be turning at 3600 RPM giving you 24 MPH.
I'm probably just not explaining correctly.

ok russ well i put the old one on a:innocent: nd it drop to 23 mph hum.....
than put the straight pipe back on and poof!! 24 mph.nothing else different let it run for a while before i started to drive it .and it even was rainy today..
so from this concusion staight pipe +1 for mph.

Illogical...:mad2: I have given this a lot of thought and come up blank. This flies in the face of everything I know. I wonder what would happen if you removed pipe completely...? Another MPH? I will try to duplicate your outcome on my kart. If it works for you w/Briggs, should be repeatable w/Honda clone as this is the only 4 cycle that I have running at the moment. Live long and prosper.

Maybe it accelerates quicker to the governed RPM? Maybe the engine is running marginally better on the pipe, and at a given throttle setting, it's running smoother so as to gain the 1 mph...? Those air-vane governors on B/S engines aren't absolutely accurate, and their (vacujet/pulsjet) carbs are pretty rudimentary. I ran my old flathead 5hp without the governor, and between 3600- 4500 rpm... it pulled better with the 14" pipe. BUT- it was a sick engine, and the carb plain sucked.... er, "didn't accurately combine fuel/air for internal combustion very well".... The engine sits on my back porch as something to look at... nothing more.
