the long break is because I got fed up with the tapered shaft on my 13 hp engine and I was strapped for cash when It came to buying a new crankshaft. So I am going to put in a 5hp briggs engine that I have laying around which, I thought had seized up. After opening her up I found the engine was in overall good shape. I did need to take off the old piece that was on the shaft that held the belt. the kart itself is near completion I may need to adjust the seat as I am thinking of this being a kart my niece and nephew can both use. Even me standing at 5'7" found that the pedals were far away. I do have two 3.5hp engines so I might instead use those since they are small children. I am hoping to get this completed within the next few weeks, since it is getting warmer and warmer. the pic is what the kart currently looks like.

Looks a hell of a lot like a Manco mini-indy, do you happen to have the fiberglass body that goes on it? I always loved the way these things looked put together. You'll be fine if you can get the 5 running, they only had 3.5hp briggs when they were new anyway.

well I got the kart from someone living in the same city as me, which is graham. When I looked at it I did not find any stamps or marks indicating a brand or company. In certain areas the welds were done to well to just have been a home made kart but at the same time parts of the kart seemed to have been homemade. I wish i had a fiberglass body. I may have overlooked a stamp so I will be sure to check again

Yea looks like a fun kart. Might have some steering problems being so long though. I know mine does. Is it a flatty 5 hp or o.h.v?

Very sorry on my first post there. Its still a Mini-Indy but its MFG by Byrd. Its one of the few kart designs that still get me a little hazy, Manco and Byrd made these so stupidly similar, not just in design of the kart, but on the chassis. By all means I could still have this wrong, but if I identified the kart we sold years ago as that then its about 90% on the side of Byrd.

Here is one we sold a few years ago... look similar?

the engines I have are all flatty's. after looking at the pics, the wing the karts have would explain why mine had two spots in the back that seemed to be cut off. Now I want to find a body kit for my kart, and here I was putting it up for sale on craigslist. I am definitely going to keep it and add a wing myself lol.

I'll post the batmobile tomorrow if you like... there were literally dozens of different bodies, not just indy they put on these karts.
