First up, DO NOT USE 18LB VALVE SPRINGS UNLESS YOU HAVE A BILLET CONROD...

There's only so far you can go but, there are different advance keys for different applications; I think the biggest I've seen is 8° but, that's just me. What is the intended purpose/use

I want to file down the stock timing key. The kart will be used on road,no abuse, no racing. Thanks

for road use I'd say.. 4° or 6° otherwise you'll loose too much power in lower rpms.

Also the GX timing keys fit the predator (according to arc racing)
so, buy one, don't file; it's about $8 (even cheaper on ebay) ;)

If I remember correctly (and I might not...) every 0.006" you file off the key results in 1* of advance (or retard if you clock it the other way).

The truth of the matter is, you don't even need a timing key- but it does make life simpler for folks that do not own a timing degree wheel (I don't either). Racers often run without keys. Important thing to remember- the key indexes the flywheel to the shaft. It does not hold it there. Torque the nut correctly, and it holds itself with or without the key.
