My tools and measurement skills are not the best. I will take 7 or so measurements at 8 or 9 locations. I will throw away the highest and lowest numbers and average the rest.

That is much more play-do than I ever used lol. I only use a dab in the valve relief lol.

I have no valve relief in the piston. I put a little on at first and the valves didn't even hit the clay (around 0.100" thick and perhaps too centralized). I tried again with that wad you saw. I hit the clay that time. My measuring is only close guess but I will say, with zero lash, intake and exhaust were 0.120" +/- 0.010.

Poboy's 0.050"P2V clearance means I can take off 0.040" and use the 0.027" gasket. I've read other places something like 0.080" intake 0.100" exhaust P2V clearance plus additional 0.030" if using Aluminum Rod. That wouldn't leave me with much room.

I cut the clay at the point closest to the piston with knife. Carefully Cut all the extra clay around the spot I wanted to measure. And with the back side of the caliper gently kissing the clay, I lowered the depth probe to touch the piston. ?????

I am comfortable removing a little material. I will retest with clay again after 0.005" and hopefully my clay technique improves.

I have taken a bunch of reference measurements.
Working slow and measuring often.... I will Cut the head!!!
Here we go!

Maybe I missed something, But what is the precise way to measure Play dough?

I always just mic it, takes some practice to get it right and not smoosh it. How precise is that? IDK, I wouldn't count on it down to microns, but +/- .001 probably.

I hate that. they print the question on the stick and you gotta eat the posicle to see the answer.

I just break the popsicle in half...stick it in a cup...and let it melt. Then I drink that "Koolaid" and I don't care what the stick says!

On another forum a guy PM'd me and asked: "How do you keep an idiot in suspense?"

I said: "I don't know." He said: "I'll tell you tomorrow! "

It's been a year and he just keeps posting the same thing! What an idiot! BTW: How long DOES it take to go 80 miles at 80mph? All these things just give me a headache....unanswerable questions! LOL.

Hey Bob,
when you swapped cams, how would you rate the difference in acceleration between the mamba jr and the stock?

Can't say yet. I haven't had it running properly since I installed it. It went in the same time as most of the other stuff ( carb, rod, valves, porting, fuel pump, head gasket,... )

The short video I posted was the best I had it running and if that is the best she can do, then it is not worth it. BUT I'm sure I can get it running properly soon and will give you actual numbers to use for comparison.

But still won't be able to tell you how the cam ALONE changed anything.

---------- Post added at 12:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:44 AM ----------

A lot of planning should go into cam selection spending on what you want. Need to consider weight, tire size, gearing, Clutch engagement, carb size, exhaust pipe shape, ignition timing, track size/shape...

I was hoping to gain additional 5 hp and maybe 3 ft*lb torque with cam and carb, but that's just guessing and kinda low balling expectations.

Probably shouldn't do this...

youngengines 8-17-14

"The secret is in the hole drilled in the ARC 390 adapter..with a fogger nozzle in it. The engine actually lost about 1hp from just putting the nozzle in (its a pretty big restriction in a port that small I guess), but when the nitrous was used it went from 27.x to 34.7....."

Dreaming.. Lol

lol :D its alright. AGK makes a carb insulator with a pulse fitting instilled in it...

.. you said nitrous? :D yeah..plug and play if y'know what i mean lol .with some fabrication of course. i'm not going to do it so i won't go into detail about a small nitrous jet.
Sweet dreams :D

Yeah Bob!
you should have done 1 thing at a time.
Cam,
then 390 carb
then head gasket
then porting.
With everything at once you do not know what was the BIG deal.
Maybe you only needed the Cam?
I want my money back on this text book. You can keep the lab fees!
