Modern men are just overweight 600 lbs blobs that only care about their cell phone. Nearly everyone has a smart phone but they're not any smarter about things. If the modern overweight blob-men do by chance somehow shoehorn their bellies behind the steering wheel of a classic frame go kart, it won't be fun or fast and their belly will envelop the steering wheel.

Average adults were smaller...in the waistline back then. The American diet hadn't yet taken hold with all the additives and high fructose corn syrup and the explosion of junk food e v e r y w h e r e.

The Azusa Go Kart bare frame seems to be the low cost leader, still. $320.00 (plus freight) is pretty reasonable and while it is comically Lilliputian in size it can be lengthened with steel tubing to make a viable kart in the regular size. I've seen more than a few examples of such across the interwebz.
