Nice job on the pedals. You had to move them back a little farther than I did. If the kart is going to be used mainly off road, I think your tires look perfect. Don't know what advice you could possibly need on them. Well Gramps, did you take it for a test ride yet? How's it run. Should have plenty of power.

I ran out of time today to get pics showing the issue with the tires/rims. That will come tomorrow, unless I can run out there real quick.

I took it for a test drive and it did well. That engine has a good amount of power for growth. I had the granddaughter sit on my lap to drive as I controlled the gas. After a few slow laps, I opened it up and she squealed loudly! She stayed she loved going fast! Oh God! Today I dialed down the throttle by a lot.

Ok here is my issue with the rims, not so much the tires. The previous owner got these racing hubs, then drilled holes in the rims to fit the hubs. Horrible job doing that I might add. It is ok for now, as the granddaughter will be forced to go slow. However, I do want to have a better alternative.

From some research, trying to find a live axle hub that would fit a 3 hole hub that I have is nearly impossible. So I'm guessing I'll have to get new rims and match a hub to it? Are there other options and if so, what should I be looking at?

Well, I think your cheapest route would be to get some real 4”x4” hubs and matching rims. It will make your life easier.

Hey Scout, you can do like Denny suggest and buy new hubs and wheels to fit them. You can also buy live axle wheels that are keyed and will go directly on the axle. No hub needed. Your tires still have usable tread, but they are 7" rims. 6" and 8" are much more common and easier to find. What is the diameter of your rear axle? I was just looking on the Go Power Sports website. They have 6" rims for 5/8" & 3/4" axles, and 8" rims for 1" axles. Not saying you can't find 7" rims. I only looked at one place. Your tires are 16" tall. About the biggest 6" tires are
15" tall, and I think the smallest 8" tires are 18" tall. Hope this gives you some ideas for fixing your problem.

Yeah I looked at some of those live axle rims, but couldn't find 7 inch rims to fit the tires. The other issue, they would have to have set screws in addition to the key. Though not a deal breaker, I can tap them if possible.

No need for set screws if you get a stepped axle. I’m partial to the hub route because most people don’t do the maintenance to be able to remove the rims freely in the event of a flat. Plus with the large center hole of the 4”x4” pattern they will usually fit on most tire machines and are easier to break down. Plus tires are usually cheaper for 8” rims with a larger variety of sizes, plys and tread designs.

Are your current wheels drilled off center. Not concentric. Clown car like. That could be dangerous at higher speed. I was afraid 7" wheels would be hard to find.
You might have to buy wheels and tires. Is your axle stepped? Live axle wheels don't need a set screw. The key works fine. Just put a nylock style nut to hold them on. Two of my karts use that style wheel, and as long as I slather on some wheel bearing grease before putting them on, they come off fine when needed.
