Hi all,

So I am replacing the engine on my kids Hammerhead 80T and am intrigued by adding reverse. Something like this kit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Go-Kart-Forward-Reverse-Gear-Box-For-3-4-TAV2-30-40-41-12T-10T-35-/391822819349

How does this thing mount? Anyone have any pictures of something like this installed they can share? I have a brand new Duromax electric start engine that I am putting on it currently.
I can do some fab work. i have grinders, welder, drill press, etc.

Thanks,
Joe

simple you need a torque converter, the driven pulley goes to the shaft on the gearbox, and then you only need to route the chain from there..
well and add the control cam and cables on top of course.. but that's trivial ;)

I can't tell if this is replacing the existing backing plate on the engine? I would assume so since the gearbox is replacing the existing shaft on the current backing plate? Does it mount to the engine or to the frame? Here are the only pics that seem close to the setup that I would end up with....

Found another pic - if only I could get a clear pic of how the transmission mounts to the frame/engine.....

This is how I did my mud mower.

If ya got a welder and grinder and can fab, why are ya asking lol

It a box ya need to mount. Look at pics on ebay listings.

Trying not to reinvent the wheel. I’d rather replicate an existing bracket to eliminate trial and error. LOL

There are two types of reverse, internal and external. The pictures you provided appear to be for an internal reverse setup. External reverse setups have a single cable that engages or disengages reverse as in this example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx9nWrqDlrE&t=2s

My thoughts are to buy a kart with reverse already installed due to size limitations with your smaller 80T kart along with modification headaches that are inevitably going to occur or replace the drivetrain with an internal reverse setup if possible.

Thanks

unfortunately, used karts around here are pretty thin. I also have the transmission and the new engine already - so I might as well fab something up. Just looking for some more details pics.

BLAST LED offers that kit or a similar one. Maybe contact them to see if what you want to do is feasible. They may have installation tips or they may tell you it isn't an option. See what they say before jumping into your project. This Hammerhead kart has built-in reverse and is relatively inexpensive. Having reverse is a definite bonus. Good luck with it, report back with any progress.

Thanks

See if there is anything posted here you could pick up with a reverse drivetrain if things don't work out with yours.

After further research, the swing arm is not big enough to fit a reverse box. Bummer. Would have to rebuild the entire thing and that is not worth it in my opinion. Moving on.... :)
