Been reading this on both the forums. Since it sounds like you need the tq vs the top end with your weight disadvantage you may want to put the muffler back on. Or use a smaller tube header instead with a muffler.
Loosen your valve lash to about .008 and .010. It will add a little tq. We're not talking measurable here though.
A cam is going to be your friend for torque. Dont go hogging out your carb and head if you are looking for bottom end. I'd deck the head a little instead to boost compression.
