anybody know what the ac output of a 150214 tecumseh engine is, and if it's diagnosed like briggs stators?

Is there not a DC charge circuit? Maybe one wire off he stator with a diode hidden it it somewhere? Describe your engine- L-head? OHV? OHC? how many cylinders, hp, cc's, etc. I may have a manual.

it's an L head model 195-150214 spec. 1113d

8hp single, with electric, and pull start. i'll have to pull the engine, if the stator is bad, that's why i'm looking the ac voltage before the diode. it seemed to check ok on the 12v side.

no connector,

been cut off, 2 wires coming out near starter, 1 white wire, kill wire, not being used there, not absolutely sure about the wire with the diode on it, due to it being heat shrinked, and original paint still intact. i can tell that the diode itself has been hot, not burning hot, but pretty warm.it looks like it might be round. i'll try to get it back up on the lift, and get a good picture, tomorrow.

that was one of my questions, i felt like that was the way, but when you're underneath it, trying to take measurements, and it's running WOT, the belt tends to keep you from taking the measurements. i'm gonna extent the wire, prior to the diode, so i can get the reading from the top side.

the diode is doing it's job, of allowing voltage to flow only 1 way, i just wanted to double check to make sure the stator is doing what it's supposed to, before i remove the engine

got it checked,

less than 2v ac is not good, in my eyes, so it looks like an engine removal, but that's ok, i wanted a good excuse to clean up the engine compartment, anyway.

Yeah- I don't think we need to check the spec on that. 2VAC isn't going to cut it... Just to verify- you took that reading between the diode wire, and ground, right?

yep,
i set up 2 meters, 1 on the 12v side, 1 on the ac side.

i would get 1.6 to 1.8v ac, and maybe get a half a volt on the dc side.

a new stator is over 100 bucks, and i can find used engines, for a little more than that.

should i stay original, or change

This is for the Hot Rod, right?

While the engine is cool, I think I would be inclined to seek a larger displacement vertical engine from a more modern mower. Maybe a nice 15hp Briggs I/C or something. Then, use this engine for a lesser project, or maybe even sell it. I normally don't go for "replacement", but I think this project is deserving of something bigger and badder. Maybe even a twin, if it'll fit!

Next option is to source a parts engine for cheap, if you can find one.

man,

that really makes it deep, especially, since i'm already doin the wheels, tires, and rear axle, already.
i think i'll give it a little time, do to it running fine, and you would have to mention a v-twin, cause i got 1, but, i think i might have found a way to get to it, and not have to take the engine out, but it's becoming get it ready for spring, so, customers first.

:wai: You do not have to pull the engine to remove the flywheel. Unbolt the gas tank, slide it back, take the dipstick tube screw/screws out and rotate the dipstick tube away from the shroud, take the air cleaner azz'y completely off and remove the four bolts from the shroud and remove the shroud and theres the flywheel. I can not tell from the picture where the two wires on the batterys postive post goes. I assume one is going to the key switch. Where does the other one go, is it the charging wire? The easist way I have found to see if the stator is putting out, take your meter set it dc and check battery voltage before starting , then start and run it up to full throttle and re check the voltage.

i did almost exactly what you reccommended. removed the battery, dipstick, and tank screws, lifted the tank off the shroud, removed the shroud bolts, and wiggled it out from under the fuel tank. once i got that off, moved the tank around to where the battery goes, and removed the flywheel, bam, done.

i had a friend bring me a 7 hp stator, single wire, and the matching flywheel, long story short, it's unregulated, but charging..
i'll have some pics, later today

 Glad you have it charging. I know that I forgot something in my post, remove battery. I was checking the Carter go-kart site and seen a kart with the same body style as yours.
