Either repack or replace (They're pretty cheap)

I'm with goat on this one. I think some taller bars would be slick. The skinny tire would be the knees but it would definitely hinder steering.

It's almost a shame to let it go, Joe. That motor is pretty sweet and has a nice chugga-chugga-chugga idle. No smoking or other funny business either.

Now it's (the red clunker) got a 10 tooth clutch and 50 teeth on the rear sprocket and.. a 19" tall bald tire in the rear and this thing is sloooow.

The calculators all say I should be doing 41 tops. What gives?

No mo' cosmetic work, WTR. This thing's going up for sale as soon as I can get 'round to it. I've got a cheapo Chinese kill switch on the way for it, just for the cherry on top, but I'm not sure I can wait that long.

Mine came from TSC with a C clutch, and was set up to do about 24mph. And it didn't get there in any rush.
As you know, 5:1 is right at the edge of yuk.

It's almost misleading; that clutch and chain cover looks like a TAV housing.

Nuffin but a cent. clutch under there.

Eh, once that clutch kicks in, there's a nice pull until you hit the brick wall...which is its top speed. Sort of peppy.

Does/did yours have a lot of gear whine or other cacophony when you let off the gas? It kinda goes, WHEEEeeeeerrrrrooooooo...

The one I had was kinda noisy... the chain might have been a bit worn out. It was a while ago...

My wife's does it more than mine, even after installing a TC.

I've been bombing around on the clunker lately, just working out the bugs. Twice I had to walk it home because the throttle cable housing slipped out of the retainer leaving me with a dead throttle. Plus I kept grabbing for more throttle that wasn't there.

It actually is fast, quite so, just acceleration leaves something to be desired...

...but it will get on up there and I'm reasonably sure I was doing 30-35 mph before the vibrations made me want to ease off a bit. I kept hearing an odd pop here and there which was probably just chain slap.

I added on a cheap Chinese kill switch I found on Fleabay--$1.21 shipped!

It came with male bullet connectors attached so instead of snipping those off and just twisting wires together, I crimped on some female bullet connectors to the wires that I ran down to the ignition coil and to the ground. Then I just snapped the connectors together. Kill switch works perfectly with a positive click on/off. The connectors came from a kit I had purchased prior to use on my Honda XL.

Then, I added a less than stellar kickstand because it had none. It was too long so I cut it to length but I didn't get around to welding on a 'foot' before I got a potential buyer today.

This machine is SOLD.

The right kind of guy bought it. A welder by trade and one who does custom cars and such on the side. He bought it for his young son who I figured must be 8 years old. Could barely plant his feet on the ground...but he'll grow into it.

Chinese Pulsa-Jet review

I have a photo review of the Chinese Pulsa-Jet I wish to present.

Now this was a treat to receive a brand new-in-the-box carburetor of a known design. All the ones I have experience with are usually well used or falling apart.

This thing is kind of "blingy" with a mirror smooth throat and brightly machined mating surfaces where it mates with the engine block and the fuel tank. The exterior has an immaculate pebble grain surface and the casting is very good with little flash or other 'artifacts' or leftovers. Along with two free gaskets it also included an odd small rubber plug. In the photos you will see a top view that shows an extra mounting hole that goes right through the area near the fuel pump. It must have been a later modification to the design but the plug is for plugging that hole if you don't use it.

I did find that it lacks the usual idle mixture needle valve and in its place lies an odd emulsion tube that is just screwed in flush. The only thing adjustable on this carb then is the idle speed as far as I can tell. After several tugs on the starter which fills the small reservoir in the tank, the engine coughed to life. The factory setting for the idle was spot-on and allowed the engine to settle into a nice low idle. I'm glad it didn't rev wildly, engage the clutch and take off like what usually happens "to the other fella".

Not bad for a Chinese knock off.
