Working on the BT200x tonight. Getting it ready for it’s maiden voyage. I go to start it and there is a ton of resistance. Odd. Kept trying. Tried to roll bike back. Wouldn’t go back. At this point I’m thinking it must have committed suicide in the night. Give it one more pull and it roars to life.

Brass bushing doesn’t seem To be doing it’s job in the tq converter. Bike is inching forward. Suddenly it flies off. I jam my foot under the rear tire and it starts torquing on my foot climbing over. I kill the engine. Wtf I say. I notice I hadn’t tensioned the chain...maybe it’s misaligned somehow. I check alignment and tension chain. Still won’t roll back. I take all tension out of belt...still no go.

I’m angry and disappointed at this point. I’ve built many of these...wth did I do wrong. I take apart the torque converter. Lots of rubber from the belt and the bushing is stuffed full of rubber. I think to myself again I guess my alignment is off...despite having used a straight edge. I clean the bushing yo and inspect the belt. I had the belt orientated as it should...”this side to engine”

I look closer and low and behold.....the NEW Comet Belt is on the left...the belt on the right is a different length but that has nothing to do with this...it’s just for reference. if you are familiar with torque converters the problem will jump out at you!!!

I’ve sent off an email to the distributor and am awaiting their em reply. I also urged them to check all remaining inventory.

Took me a minute to figure it out. I can feel your pain now. Probably a good thing I go off of the angle vs lettering.

Ugh!! Look at the non-angle :D

Just for everyone else on this forum who aren't too familiar with Comet 30 belts, please could you tell everyone what you problem was instead of everyone having to guess :D

So the angled side of the belt should face outward of the engine which matches the curvature of the outward driver piece. Orientating the belt per the markings had the angled portion facing inward on the flat side. Not good haha. Comet is aware of the issue and is verifying that there are no other affected belts in inventory.

I just went through my first belt replacement in the past week or so and have been followin your TC tuning adventures for the bike.

See photo for drawings from a Comet belt sleeve showing the angles on the different types of belts for reference.

Good reference diagram. And hopefully my tq converter thread helps you in your builds. It’s worth noting that as I theorized, I put a stock driver on a lower hp engine and had no problem reaching the speed it was geared for. It’s when you start porting the head and putting in decent cam the stock driver becomes a big limitation.
