Hey Paul!! Here's an idea; just to confirm that you actually could take those photo's on your way to work, how about you get YOUR photo taken WITH the critter in question; you know, just an independent confirmation that these guys are actually as big a problem for you as stray puppies...

I snuck up behind a couple of lions and had my buddy take a pick with me hiding in the grass. Fortunately I was downwind of them, and am pretty stealthy. You have to be; living here in Africa. If you aren't.....well, you don't you get dead fast...

Chris, that was funny!!! Douglas Adams skit "The Peonie Incident" was even better though because it listed the consequence if accidentally picking a flower; by the time the authorities had finished reacting, well, lets just say the way was clear for the hyperspace bypass.....

On the other hand, Paul's Photoshop example will only garner him friends with the alien abduction/ "Bigfoot recognized me and called me Son" crowd, of which I have the unfortunate distinction of having a couple as new coworkers. All I need is his personal Email address.....

Nice! And yeah- I am a BIG Douglas Adams fan myself. It's a shame he died, I was looking forward to future offerings. And for those not in the know- Douglas Adams was the author of "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", and no- the movie did NOT do the books justice.

The "THING" that Disney put out was not a movie, it was a total travesty. If you have ever read any of the books (all Five volumes of the "Hitchhiker's Trilogy") (yes, that's right) as well as seen the original BBC TV mini series, listened to the BBC Radio series, read thru the radio transcripts..... You would understand where Doc and I are coming from....

I actually liked the movie to some degree..
it was entertaining.
No it did NOT do the book justice, but for an hour and a half it was better than most of the other stuff on free tv

Dang right, you are! My mother introduced me to Douglas Adams when I was a teen, and I soaked up everything I could. Loved the Dirk Gently stuff, too. I have the trilogy of five in single books, as well as a large, bound compilation book, too. Huge hardcover. Nice. I love real, tangible books.

You're sure right about that. When you read a book, your mind forms it's own images. Seeing a movie after the fact cannot help but disappoint. I watch movies cased on books I've read, and even the characters don't "look right". Stupid Hollywood...

'Sid, while you're right about most movie's never living up to the book they're based on, my complaint about Disney's hack job was based on the original video series; a classic case in point was the first episode, just after the Earth had been demolished; Aurthur Dent has just regained consciousness, and then his friend, Ford Prefect, tries to give him a crash course on how to survive in the great big universe, including how to use the "Hitchhikers Guide".

'Sid, I was only able to last about ~20 minutes into the movie, before I had to apologize to my relatives that I was visiting, and head back to the hotel to be ill..... If it gave you some chuckles, great. If you ever find the original BBC video series on disc to rent (that's how I found it was available; I couldn't place my order fast enough after watching it for the first time in almost 2 1/2 decades), do it. You will be amazed at what they did back then, and the humor, while still campy, can still make you grin today...

It was about this time after the travesty came out that I had my family grumbling because I refused to watch a movie that was worse than horrible, I think I'm going to break out the originals.... Maybe I'll even offer to share with the tribe here in town this year...

Oh, and 'Sid? I didn't find out about the books until I had seen the original TV series; Douglas Adams didn't start writing until after the series was several years old...

I have a story...(not quite as exciting as hitting kangaroos, toads, and the occasional elephant)....
I live in central rural Indiana. We have a major deer problem here too.
My son's best friend dropped by the house one day to ask if I would install some brush guard bars on his pick-up. Someone had given the brush guard, and he thought it would cool on the front of his truck.
The kid has no mechanical ability, so I jumped in and gladly installed them for him.
Finished in a couple of hours, right around dusk.
He thanked me...jumped in his truck...and took off to show off his new option to all of his friends.
He was gone maybe 15 minutes.
I was still putting away my tools when he came back.
The brush guard was destroyed.
He had left my driveway...drove about 2 miles...and smoked a 6 point buck that ran out in front of him !!!!
Had it in the back of his truck !!!!!
Talk about timing !!!!!!

Yeah...the crazy kid.....
I took another couple of hours straightening and welding up the smashed brush guard....(with the dead deer still in the bed of the truck)...got him going again....and he took of to tell all of his friends the crazy story....and to show off his new brush guard and the 6 point buck !!!!!

I'd kind of be interested in knowing how the kid managed to load an uncooperative (dead weight, hahahaha) six-point buck into his truck, solo!

Nah, not quite; the centre nudge section looks ok but, the side sections look a bit light; if you hit a 'roo, they'll end up inside the front fenders...

No worries, mate! 'Roos are in rather short supply 'round here. If I managed to peg one, I am really, really, really screwed- because that means I was doing something at the zoo that I ought not have been doing!
