You can always hardwire a motorcycle or lawn tractor battery to the power wheels and yse a trickle charge to charge. That's what I did with my boys power wheels years ago. Now they are 10 and 11 and graduated to working on their own yerfdogs

I have a good SLA battery for his power wheels, it is the pedal or forward/reverse switch that has broken. If I cant get my hands on a cheapo kart rolling chassis, then I may wire up my own switches for the power wheels as I am 95% sure the motors are still good.

before I found where to get cheap SLA batteries, I ran the power wheels off a 3 cell Lipo from my RC trucks. worked pretty well...just with shorter runtimes.

I have a little over $500 in my kart and used the my1020 48V motor listed above. If you get a programmable controller, you can limit the output to suit the drivers ability and adjust as skill improves.

where I live sucks! Ive been searching Clist and I have found a couple power wheels and 2 razor machines. one was a razor sport bike...just needed a charger, for $30! But like everything I have found that was dirt cheap, it is 2+ hours away.

actually...too poor to have my civic anymore. I used to have a EF I modified and drove like a fool. But I could no longer afford a car just for fun. No more $800 bangers I could fix up and play with. Had to sell my '87 Toyota 4wd too...that hurt worse. It was beat to heck but it was a blast to take out on the trails!

Ill keep looking. One of those razor karts or ATV's would be really cool to get for my son. Its that whole "want to give your kids the stuff you didn't have" thing.

Better yet...I could pull him with my 1/6 scale hummer H2 RC crawler! It has 2 55turn brushed motors running on 8v...doesn't sound like much but it is geared so it hardly goes faster than walking speed. I have dragged 38 #'s across pavement with it. Pulling him in a wheeled kart shouldn't be any harder. If it struggles, I can upgrade to a 12v lipo battery for more power.

I love how you have a $600 toy for yourself but somehow can't afford to spend $200 on a decent ride-on for your son. What's a 3C Lipo run these days, $60? There's your whole budget right there but it's justified because it's more for you than for him.

Um, most of my RC's are lower-end brands and then I build custom parts from cheap stuff I get from the hardware store. Nearly every RC ive owned was bought used and at a steal. The truck mentioned cost me $200 to build.
And I have 2 such trucks...one is mine, one is my son's. We do RC stuff together.

Anyway...I ended up driving around and looking for power wheels in people's yards that looked like they were dead or had not been used in a long time. Ive ended up with 4 different ATV style power wheels, a jeep and 2 escalades. Only 2 of them did I pay money for, the others the owners were happy to see leave the yard since they didn't work and the kids didn't use them. Most all of them needed switches repaired...1/2 hour of time and a $1 spring from the hardware store. I have spent a bit of money on batteries...that otherwise might have been spent on RC stuff.
