employers want experience. How can you if know-one will take you on?

There's the old catch 22: You can't get a job without experience but you can't get experience without a job

Doing a trade seems to be the best IMO. I enjoy being a Mechanic, so maybe its just me.

I've done 2 apprenticeships (well, almost) as well as other related jobs which I can no longer do for health reasons, ironically, as a result of said work but, I wouldn't change that for anything. I know what I know as a result of that experience & I love working with my hands. Without the former, the latter wouldn't exist

$45.00 AN HOUR?!?

The only time I've ever come close to that was working on New Years day for double time & a half. I can't say about most union's, but the riggers and millwrights down the street from my shop are only making in the mid $20's.

I've never worked for a company that had a union; just smaller shops that were/are always hungry. But as an amateur historian, I stand by my earlier statement, about how if you have any benefits, thank the unions.

That's what I said! I'm not sure of all the trades around here. They have different pay scales. Electricians are millwrights definately over $40 around chicago. I've been best friends with plumber steve literally since kindergarten.he told me the exact. It's was 47 and change. I rounded that to $45. I about **** a brick. That's almost triple what I make. Kicker is last year I made more than he did. It's really too bad. He spent 5 years on the apprenticeship, he's one of the hardest workers I've ever seen, and he's very good at what he does. He deserves that kind of wage. As he has told me though these kids come in there and aren't taking the job seriously. They just want the paycheck and fumble there way through everything. what they had before was if you hired union you would know it was done right the first time. He says that's not the case anymore. At least in his union. I feel bad for him and the other guys who are great at what they do. Tarnished by some worthless punks.

True I was just saying that in my experience with Gen-Y they just don't really understand how the world works. Not all of us are like that but a very disheartening portion are like that .

Maybe the problem is that they DO understand how the world works, and they don't see much point in it.
