Well 3 hrs of riding the newly ready spiderbox and this is what happens. Glad it happened with me driving it and not my wife!:surrender: Luckily no one was injured, both my brother and me thought it was kind of fun.

I find it hard to believe this axle didn't break earlier. If you look you can see only the inner 1/2" of the axle was even still connected before it snapped.

I planned on upgrading the axle since the original was way too short. Now I guess I have no choice(I already bought everything from bmi tonight). It is only money right? :cornut:

The axle on my kart (not yerf dog) snapped the same way. It had a casting flaw through the entire axle. I bought my new one from manufacturing supply. Stock cast axles kinda suck.

There must have been some type of flaw in the axle. These types of things don't just happen.

I hope you are OK. Wereyou going at speed when it snapped?

I was actually showing my brother how the kart ran since he had not seen it since I finished it. We were about to go around a corner (at about 20-25mph) and all of a sudden the kart dropped and I saw the wheel fly off towards the fence!! There is a rut from the frame dragging for about 30 ft!!

I am very lucky since my wife and daughter were on it with me an hour prior.

I have bought 3 axles from bmi, and all have held up great considering the abuse I put these karts through. I figure if I beat the crap out of it and it doesn't break then my wife and daughter should be safe. This is a perfect example.

Man you got off easy. My spider box rolled when my rear axle snapped. Some scary sh!p. my buddy had to lift me out of it. It rolled again after that when the right spindle snapped. I literally watch in horror as my front tire rocketed into the forest and I helplessly rocketed into a tree. I fixed it- and SOLD that POS. the frame is the only thing I would keep.
Engine- junk. Slow and hardly any performance gains.
Roll cage- what a joke. Crushed ends to bolt onto the frame so when the cage inevitably snaps it is now sharpened to skewer the riders.
The weak axles- evident demonstration here in this thread
Chinese bolts, nuts, and washers- need I say anymore?
Steering rack- locks up the instant any dirt gets in. Your toast if going around a corner.
Spindles that snap if any hard cornering is done
A-arms that tear out Of the front suspension bulkhead because they are made of the same material as the roll cage.
A heavy roll over factor in general due to piss poor design in a swing arm that resembles the early vw beetle(also recalled for rolling)

I could go on for ages.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but it also depends on type of use. People that bought these for cruising around may have no issues. People like me wanting to go 40mph around corners are going to break stuff.

I have redone/re-enforced the entire front end, welded all the bolted frame points, and now comes the rear axle/bearings. I am very happy how much power the predator 420cc has, almost want to get rid of the 212cc and get another
420cc for my one seater

Dude best change I ever made- two smoke dirtbike engine. Crazy quick, and enough power to keep the rear tires spinning, which prevented roll over.

We have a dingo with a 2 stroke, but shifting while drifting corners is a little more work than it is worth for me......so my brother drives that one.

Roll cage- what a joke. Crushed ends to bolt onto the frame so when the cage inevitably snaps it is now sharpened to skewer the riders.

And now, a PSA-

These are NOT roll cages. They are "brush guards" as indicated by the manufacturers (and rightly so). They may prevent small branches from smacking you in the head. The will not reliably save your bacon in the even of a rollover.

If any of you folks have karts/ mini buggies like these, do yourselves a favour- don't let that cheezy little tubing lull you into a false sense of security.
