...that chap my ***. First is the Kart ID sticky in which it says more than once "this ain't the place for "what is it?" yet they keep doing it. I guess they don't read or don't care. The second is "What can I get for it?" You aquired a kart one way or another and want help fixing it or finding parts, that's one thing. I will help as much as I can within the limits of what I know. You aquired a kart solely to resell, have no interest in karting but want someone to tell you how much you can make on it, I'm not telling you a thing.Do your own homework. The third is those few who ask for help yet have already decided what they are going to do and will argue with any advice to the contrary. Why waste our time? I have better things to do with my time. In fact, now that I'm done ranting I'm going out to the shed to begin construction on my next project. My neighbor gave a 1200cc motorcycle engine. I have the rear out of a 1965 Sears lawn mower and a pile of 2x4's I found next to a dumpster. How much you figure I can get for it when it's done? ;)

ON the problems with that idea. First 1200 and 2 x 4 construction. Second the riding mower rear end. Kinda sounds like something I would do just to see if I could do it. I feel you though too many don't listen and when they do they have a snide remark for the helpful advice we give. The days of common sense is dead. Big on balls short on brains.

:iagree: one of the things that gets me most is when someone asks for ideas/help. The main guys chip in their 2cents worth, which adds up to the best solution, then the OP FLAT OUT ignores the help, fails doing it his way, then comes back to ask why it didn't work...... Go home fool....... :censored::mad2:

Felineman, I appreciate the concern but I've given this build at least 5 minutes of thought. For the frame I'm gonna lay the tubafors narrow ways because that's stronger. On the ends I figured woodscrews were better than nails but then I had a brainstorm and decided to use L brackets (maybe use 2 on each corner) on the inside AND outside with bolts. That's got to be at least half again as strong. I may run a couple of cross braces if I think I need to. For a front axle I'm gonna drill a hole in the frame rails and run a piece of allthread through it. I may add a bushing so it doesn't wallow the hole out (I told you I've really thought this through). I'll double nut it and put a washer on at least one side where the wheel will go. At the back I'll use some some of that muffler hanger strap stuff. I figure if I wrap it around the lawn mower rear a couple times and bolt it real good it should work. I may put some springs in between the rear and the frame so I'll have a smoother ride. Maybe use some hose clamps for extra support. I'm still working on mounting the motor. Right now the plan is to get some aluminum channel (to save weight, my goal is 67 mph) and make a frame then bolt or clamp it to the frame. At some point I'll need brakes but I'll worry about that later. Right now I'm going in the direction of old time Midget/Sprint Car brakes with a lever I can pull. If anyone has any helpful hints, feel free to chime in.

Ja, I suggest bicycle disc brakes.. no need to go hydraulic though, that sh-177-y fluid's only making a mess anyways ;)

Oh and you MUST use 110oct fuel, better get a NOS injector to kick it above 80mph, that's where the real fun begins

Sid, that's a great idea. I can have 4 wheel lever operated brakes! Can't get more hi tech than that! Landuse has a point though. If I leave a hole in the floor pan I can just stick my feet out to save the weight of a brake set-up. Man, this is getting more complicated all the time....

You can just use a 2x4 for the front steering. You can tie a piece of rope to each end, use a 1/4" bolt in the middle, and that way, you won't need a steering wheel!:stir:

OR I could have the frame come to a point in the front and run the bolt (I'll proabaly use a 5/16, that extra 1/16 should add safety) through the frame and axle. That way I can steer with my feet so I can use my hands to take pictures to post here.

And that way, you won't need allthread- you can just use lag bolts......just make sure you get your tires and wheels from Harbor Freight first so you get the right size.

If you run into any problems, don't bother to post any pictures, just ask vague questions and if you don't get an answer in 5 minutes. ....start 2 more threads with the same question.

Will the torque convertor clutch I have on my other kart work on the motorcycle engine? I don't want to spend much money as it will cut into the profit when I sell it.

Can I add some to this (don't beat up the newbie to bad please)
Since its a motorcycle motor it should have a transmission. Maybe get one of those steering wheels with a paddle shifter and hook it to an air shifter. Oh the fun of doing a burnout through all 5 or 6 gears. That is if they tire lasts that long.

:idea2: J, if you are gonna steer with your feet, then bolt a piece of 2ba4 on each side of the seat to use as ground scrub brakes. Pull up on the board and it pushes the other end into the ground. You can steer this way too.... just like a cutting break. :cornut:

One of the other boards I am on uses purple to indicate sarcasm. If you know your bb code tags its easy. Or some other color thats easier to see than purple. Green, maybe.
