So i tried to start up my kart today and it ran good for about 4 seconds and then there was this really bad grinding sound and the whole engine shut down. I think it is my clutch because i recently had a mechanic look at the inside and he said it looked fine. So i put my engine back on and put the clutch on normally and this happened. It is a max torque 12 tooth clutch, 6 shoes and all. I can post pics if anyone wants them but what should i check? is there anything i might be missing because its now the only problem with my kart. :mad2: any help would be great..

Its your clutch, you burnt the spring.

You heard a loud whirring, then a clicking, then it shut off?

Oiling the clutch should temporarily stop this, your springs may be shot, you may just have a dry bushing, damage has been done from lack of oiling or riding hard on the clutch.

35 dollars is not too bad to fix this problem, just check your gear ratio and make sure this not not just something where the new clutch will go the same way. Clutches should be oiled with regular motor oil every 2 hours of use, just a few drops will do the job, oil them where the snap ring connects the faceplate which the sprocket sets to the remainder of the clutch.

Mine loved doing that, I put some wheel bearing grease on the bushing instead of oil which was not really penetrating(I took it apart to grease) and it works great now.

If my engines shaft is 3/4" but the keyed part is 5/8" should I get a 5/8 bored clutch or a 3/4" clutch?

Sorry for jumping to conclusions, I remember my dad's wood splitter doing that when i was little, haha man did it wreck that engine. The cam bent and the cam mounts in the block busted and the crank bent and the side cover cracked, recoil split. Never had a clutch do that on me. Thats crazy, i would just buy a new clutch for $35

Sorry, just didn't want to start a new thread for such a simple question.
