I am thinking about building a 90 degree gear box. It would be to put all the vertical shaft engines to use. question, could I use a set of old differential gears to build it? And would they be strong enough? or should I just buy one?

This is an interesting idea; I have a riding mower diff axle laying around somewhere; the housing is flogged out but the gears are fine; the gears are all cut at 45° & the two side gears are notched to hold a 3/4" axle so, I can't see why it couldn't be done...

PS, LOVE your sig :lolgoku:

So what car diff are you planning to use?
I'm just thinking you are going to need plenty of space, as the ring gear already takes up alot space. Might have to mount the engine higher to accommodate some kind of ground clearance.
An interesting build for sure.

The diff is from a peerless transaxl. So its relatively small. Still figuring out the bearings as there a bit of side load. cause the first set to lock up. So I am back to the drawing board.

That's what I was was leaning towards. Not sure how to keep them together, c clips maybe. Should the cone of the bearing face in or out?
